Basit Ali Slams Former Pak Coach Jason Gillespie: Former Pakistani cricketer Basit Ali has slammed former Australia pacer Jason Gillespie for stepping down as the head coach of the Pakistan Cricket Team after an almost seven-month stint at the job.
Gillespie was appointed as the head coach of the national team in Test cricket by the Pakistan Cricket Board in April 2024. His appointment was for two years and only for red ball cricket.
However, in October 2024, he was also called in as the interim boss of the limited-overs side after the departure of Gary Kirsten. The first match he oversaw was the two-match Test series at home against Bangladesh. In that series, not only did Pakistan lose a Test match at home to the Bangla Tigers, but they also lost the series 2-0 while being whitewashed in one of the biggest upsets in Test cricket of the last few years.

But then came the three-Test series at home against England, of which the Men in Green lost the first match as well. With the clouds of humiliation looming over Shan Masood’s men, they turned the script upside down by winning the next two matches against the Three Lions on spin-heavy tracks.
As Basit Ali slams former Pak Coach Jason Gillespie, In his stint as white-ball head coach, he won an ODI series and lost a T20I series to Australia Down Under. And most recently, Pakistan won an ODI and T20I series against Zimbabwe, following which Gillespie has left both red and white ball coaching jobs.
Addressing the situation on his YouTube channel, former Pakistan batter Basit Ali has now slammed Jason Gillespie for quitting the job as the Test cricket coach of the Pakistan Cricket Team. Ali suggested that the former Australian pacer resign from his job now because of the upcoming tour to South Africa.

Pakistan is travelling to South Africa for three ODIs, three T20Is, and two Test matches in what is one of the most challenging tours on the calendar of any team. So, in regards to Gillespie’s resignation, Ali had this to say:
“He has made a very good decision not to go to South Africa. Why will he not go? Because South Africa isn’t an easy place. Keep everything in mind.”
While leaving at such a crucial juncture in the national team’s schedule is suspect for a head coach, one must remember the toxic relationship the Pakistan Cricket Board has with their national team coaches.
Basit Ali didn’t stop there, as he then went on to say that Jason Gillespie only wanted to improve his resume by coaching Pakistan; he said,
“Jason Gillespie wanted to make his CV, which he did. This was the best time for him to step down. Winning the series against England was a very big achievement. What happens in our country? People just make their CVs.”
Former World Cup winner with Pakistan, Aqib Javed, who was formerly the chief coach at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, is not the new head coach of the Pakistan Cricket Team across all formats.
