Declan Rice Talks About the Anxiety: The English Premier League is proclaimed as the toughest league in the world. With the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham, etc. competing to bag the trophy, standing tall at the end of the season isn’t an easy job.
This brings tons of pressure on the players and the managers, especially for the teams that are at the top of the food chain. As rewarding as it is to play for them, it is as challenging to win the game week and out.
Declan Rice Talks About the Anxiety Playing for Arsenal
Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice, who is known as one of the young prospects in the world, opens up about the mental toll it takes to boot up for the Gunners. He says the anxiety skyrockets at times if you end up not winning games.
“Mentally, it is tough. The anxiety is through the roof!” Rice said. “You know the pressure of playing for Arsenal, you have to win every game. And if you want to win Premier Leagues and cups, compete at the top, you need to be at your best and you need to win – otherwise the pressure mounts.
Arsenal had a nerve-wracking game on the weekend against Leicester City in which, though the London-based team netted twice before the first half, got conceded as many within 18 minutes into the first half. The draw, which could weigh as heavy as a loss in the choking Premier League, was looming in their corner until the added time past the 90 minutes. 2 goals in the added time, one from Wilfred Ndidi and the other from Kai Havertz, saved their day as Arsenal left the pitch with 3 valuable points. Haverts recalls the tense moments with football.london.
“So when that second goal went in for them, one thought is – we can’t lose this game, we have to keep going. In the end, it is kind of like a sigh of relief, because we won the game, we deserved to win the game.
“That was probably the most comfortable we have been in the first half all season, in terms of passing the ball, dominating the ball. There are lots of positives to take, but still so much to improve on. As the season goes on, I am sure you are going to keep seeing the best of us.”
Arsenal are third on the table with 14 points from 6 games, as many as Manchester City, who sits at second, thanks to their goal difference advantage. Arne Slot’s Liverpool stays at the top with 15 points from the same amount of games.
