Sunil Gavaskar Wants Ashwin to Start Mind-Games: India will face Australia in a 5-match blockbuster Test series in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The series got the name of two legends from both countries, Allan Border from Australia and Sunil Gavaskar from India.
India have won the last two times and are eying for a hat-trick. But things wouldn’t be easy for them as the match is going to take place in Australia. To beat the World Test Championship winners on their own soil would be tough but historic.
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy kicks off on November 22. The series consists of 5 Tests, which will take place in different stadiums, including Melbourne and Perth.
Ahead of the series, both Indian and Australian former players have started verbal warfare to get an upper hand mentally. While former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting and Glenn McGrath picked Australia to defeat India, ex-Indian cricketer and commentator Ravi Shastri picked the visitors to clinch a hat-trick.
Sunil Gavaskar Wants Ashwin to Start Mind-Games Ahead of Border-Gavaskar Trophy
Sunil Gavaskar mentioned the mind games that are already started between the former and current players of each team. But he also complains about the lack of verbal spats from the Indian side. He suggests the legendary spinner Ravichandran Ashwin ‘start telling us about a special delivery that he is developing for Steve Smith’.
“Already the mind games have begun with Australian players both current and former airing their views about what the result would be. Maybe Ravichandran Ashwin should start telling us about a special delivery that he is developing for Steve Smith, that is of course if he continues to open the batting and can survive Jasprit Bumrah.”
“While they (Australia) are not making Glenn McGrath-like statements of a clean sweep they are still suggesting that Australia will prevail. Sadly, apart from Ravi Shastri, no other former or current player has seen to counter the mind games which the Aussies are so good at.”
