Aman Sehrawat In Semi Finals In Olympic Wrestling: Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat has stormed into the semi-finals of the men’s 57 kg freestyle wrestling tournament at the 2024 Paris Olympics and will face the No. 1 seed wrestler next.
The 2024 Olympics haven’t been for the Indian wrestling contingent or for the Indian contingent as a whole. So far, we have won three bronze medals, all of which have come in shooting.
A couple of days ago, Vinesh Phogat made her way into the final of the women’s 50 kg freestyle wrestling. But in what would become one of the most shocking moments in the history of India at the Olympics, Vinesh would fail to make weight on the day of the final and would thus be disqualified from the entire competition itself.
Not only that, but Antim Panghal and Anshu Malik have lost their first-round matches in the past two days. And Nisha Dahiya injured her hand while comfortably winning her quarterfinal before going on to lose the match.

With a lot of hope riding on the 21-year-old Sehrawat before his match, he went into the round of 16 matches as the fifth seed against Vladimir Egorov of North Macedonia. In the first minute of the bout, the two wrestlers got a feel for their opponent before Aman went in for the attack at the one-minute mark and got two points midway through the first round.
With one minute to go in the first three-minute round, the North Macedonian got the 30-second shot clock imposed on him, during which the Indian scored two more points. As the 30-second ended, he won a point. Aman was 6-0 up after winning another point for moving his opponent out of the circle as we went into the half-time break.
In the first minute of the second round, Sehrawat went in for the attack, winning two more points. Before that minute ended, he got into position for two more points and won the match 10-0 on technical superiority with two minutes to go.
In the semi-final, Aman Sehrawat took on No. 4 seed Zelimkhan Abakarov of Albania. After a feeling-out process for the first minute and a half, the Albanian was imposed with a passivity shot clock, at the end of which Aman got a point. He would win two more points before the round ended and went into halftime with a 3-0 lead.
Abakarov came into this round looking to score some points but paid for his aggression as Sehrawat got him into a Gator Roll, winning eight points with three spins. Add onto that another point for getting his opponent out of the circle, and Sehrawat won his second match in a row with technical superiority, this time the score being 12-0 with two minutes remaining in the match.

Aman Sehrawat will now be the Japanese No. 1 seed, Rei Higuchi, who won the silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics in this category and a gold in the 2022 World Championship.
The 21-year-old Aman will go into this match not only for a shot at the first silver or gold for India at the 2024 Paris Olympics but also to become the only third (fourth if you count Vinesh Phogat) to enter the final of an Olympic wrestling event.
