SL vs IND Match Highlights And Report-2nd T20I: India’s new era under T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav and head coach Gautam Gambhir started on a positive note as the Men In Blue sealed the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka by taking an unassailable 2-0 lead with one game to go.
After a 43-run victory in the first T20I, India defeated the hosts by 7 wickets (DLS) in the second T20I, which was shortened due to rain.
India restricted Sri Lanka to 161/9 in 20 overs as the hosts collapsed, losing their last 7 wickets for only 31 runs.
Rain arrived after only three balls in India’s innings and when play resumed, they were given a target of 78 runs in 8 overs. Thunderous knocks from Yashasvi Jaiswal, Suryakumar, and Hardik Pandya sealed the chase for the visitors in 6.3 overs to clinch another series win over Sri Lanka.
SL vs IND Match Highlights And Report-2nd T20I
Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and opted to bowl first. Siraj started with a 10-run over as both Sri Lankan openers collected a boundary each. Arshdeep Singh struck with the first blood – dismissing Kusal Mendis, caught at mid-on. Kusal Perera took on Siraj with a six and a four before Nissanka ended the powerplay with a couple of boundaries, with Sri Lanka in a good position at 54/1.
Perera strokes two fours to Bishnoi but the leg-spinner retorted with Nissanka’s wicket, trapping the opener lbw. Perera remained on the charge, slamming a couple of boundaries to Bishnoi and then pulling Hardik for a sixer to reach his half-century.
However, after this, the hosts collapsed shockingly. Pandya got rid of Kamindu Mendis, who scored 26 (23), and Perera, who scored 53 (34), in the same over, both caught at deep square leg. Bishnoi struck with two wickets as well in a single over—Shanaka and Hasaranga, both bowled. Sri Lanka couldn’t recover from these blows and slid further in the death overs to end with a total of 161.
India’s chase was interrupted after only three balls. After a delay of more than an hour, play restarted with India’s target now revised to 78 runs in 8 overs. Jaiswal pulled Shanaka on the first ball after the resumption, but India lost Sanju Samson, the makeshift opener in the absence of the injured Shubman Gill, to Theekshana on the first ball of the second over.
The hosts would have been confident by now; however, their confidence was popped by a match-winning partnership between Jaiswal and Suryakumar: 39 off 19, in which Suryakumar smashed 26 runs off only 12 balls, which included a hat-trick of sweep boundaries to Theekshana and a jaw-dropping six to Pathirana.
In his knock of 30 (15), Jaiswal smoked Hasaranga for two sixes and a four before getting out to the leg-spinner. Hardik Pandya didn’t allow Sri Lanka to come back in the game as he reeled three fours and a six to take India over the line comfortably in what threatened to be a closer game than it turned out to be.
Score summary: Sri Lanka 161/9 in 20 overs (Kusal Perera 53, Ravi Bishnoi 3/26); India 81/3 in 6.3 overs (Yashasvi Jaiswal 30, Maheesh Theekshana 1/16). India defeated Sri Lanka by 7 wickets (DLS).
