It was an exciting Day Two at the 2024 Paris Olympics for India on July 28 as the contingent won its first medal, a bronze at the hands of shooter Manu Bhaker, who finished third in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol event. This is Day Two of India at the Paris Olympics.

Let’s start with shooting, where Manu Bhaker won the bronze in the 10m air pistol final. Having qualified at No. 3 for the final, the 22-year-old remained in the top three along with the two South Korean shooters.
In the last two shots, Manu shot a 10.1 to climb to second. On the final shot, Manu shot a superb 10.3 but was met with a 10.5 by Kim Ye Ji to bow out in third. This made Manu Bhaker not only the first Indian medalist at the 2024 Olympics but also the first Indian woman shooter to win an Olympic medal.
But that’s not it for shooting, as Ramita Jindal qualified for the women’s 10m air rifle final and Arjun Babuta made it to the men’s 10m air rifle final, both to be played today.
It was also a good day in Badminton, as PV Sindhu and HS Pranoy won their respective first matches in women’s and men’s singles, respectively. The two will be looking for medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
In rowing, after Balraj Panwar finished fourth in his heat race yesterday, he finished second in the repechage round of the Men’s Single Sculls quarterfinal. While in swimming, India’s Dinidhi Desinghu failed to make it to the women’s 200m freestyle semi-final despite winning her heat. In the men’s 100m backstroke, Srihari Nataraj failed to make it to the semis as well.

The Indian boxing contingent had a strong showing today. Nikhat Zareen in the women’s flyweight and Preeti Pawar in the women’s bantamweight won their Round of 32 matches in unanimous decisions.
It was also a disappointing day for India in some regards; nowhere was that more true than in women’s team Archery. The Indian trio of Deepika Kumar, Ankita Bhakat, and Bhajan Kaur, who finished fourth in the qualifiers and got a direct ticket to the quarterfinals, lost in the quarters to the last-ranked Netherlands team in three straight sets. In some truly horrid shooting, the Indian team shot a couple of ‘6 points’ and even a ‘4’ in the last round.
In tennis, Sumit Nagal lost a close first-round game against Frenchman Corentin Moutet in three sets, with the third set finishing 7-5. On the other hand, the first-round men’s doubles game between Rohan Bopanna and Criram Balaji was postponed due to rain.
Finally, in Table Tennis, Sharath Kamal, who is playing in his fifth Olympics, made a shocking exit in the Round of 64 after losing 4-2 to Slovenia’s Deni Kozul. The other Indian Men’s Single TT player, Harmeet Desai, also lost his Round of 64 game against France’s Felix Lebrun.
However, Indian Table Tennis sensation Manika Batra won her first-round match against Great Britain’s Anna Hursey.
