Netherlands won the toss and opted to bowl first. The Bangladeshi top-order got stuck in the powerplay. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Liton Das were both dismissed for one run each, both by off-spinner Aryan Dutt. Shakib, though, cracked a flurry of boundaries to end the powerplay at 54/2.
Opener Tanzid Hasan, who was slow to start, collected consecutive fours right after the powerplay before playing one shot too many and holing in the deep off Paul van Meekeren, who would also later dismiss Mahmudullah and end with figures of 2/15.
While van Meekeren (2/15) and Aryan Dutt (2/17) were brilliant, they couldn’t get the support from the other bowlers. Three other Dutch bowlers went for more than 10 runs an over each as they were targeted by Shakib. Three of the last four overs of Bangladesh’s innings went for more than 12 runs each as the Asian side reached a total they could be satisfied with.

In the chase, the Netherlands didn’t get a single big over in the powerplay: not a single over of the first six went for more than 10 runs and they lost openers Michael Levitt and Max O’Dowd. However, in the 7th over, Vikramjit Singh blasted two sixes to Shakib to take 14 off the over. He then hit Rishad Hossain for a maximum but his knock was ended by Mahmudullah as he got stumped while attemping another sixer.
Sybrand Engelbrecht held his end to score 33 (22). Scott Edwards tried to provide some steadiness to the chase, but he was a bit slow, managing 25 runs in 23 balls.
Engelbrecht and Bas de Leede were dismissed in the 15th over by Hossain. From thereon, Bangladesh pounced on the Dutch. Tidy overs and wickets followed, allowing Bangladesh to win by 25 runs and boost their NRR and Super 8 chances.
Score summary: Bangladesh 159/5 in 20 overs (Shakib Al Hasan 64, Paul van Meekeren 2/15); Netherlands 134/8 in 20 overs (Sybrand Engelbrecht 33, Rishad Hossain 3/33). Bangladesh defeated Netherlands by 25 runs.
