Pakistan Super 8 Qualification Scenario: In Group A of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, India have sealed their spot in the Super 8 round with three wins in three games and have a game against Canada left. In the second position are co-hosts USA, who have two wins in three games. They are followed by Pakistan, who have one win in three games. Canada, too, have a win in three games, while Ireland have lost both of their matches so far.
Pakistan have been done a huge favor by India as Rohit Sharma’s team defeated the USA in New York by 7 wickets. This kept Pakistan alive in the race to the Super 8 round of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Not only this. With India winning by 10 balls to spare, USA’s net run rate dipped below Pakistan’s. This means that should Pakistan defeat Ireland and USA lose to Ireland, Babar Azam’s team will qualify for the next round. But if USA defeats Ireland, then Monank Patel’s team will reach the Super 8, regardless of the result in PAK vs IRE.
However, there’s a huge scare of rain in Florida that could dash Pakistan’s hopes even if one of both of these games is washed out.
USA play Ireland on June 14, and Pakistan play Ireland on June 16.

Pakistan Super 8 Qualification Scenario: Weather Forecast in Florida Is “Life-Threatening”
South Florida has been receiving “torrential downpours” over the past few days due to a storm that has caused at least a foot of rainwater to clog the area. The National Weather Service issued flood watches or warnings for 8 million people. Some areas, including portions of Broward and Miami-Dade counties, are seeing “life-threatening flooding,” the weather service added.

Pakistan have two points; USA have six. Pakistan have a better NRR than USA. Both teams will face Ireland for their remaining fixtures.
The equation for USA to qualify is simple: either beat Ireland or hope that one of these two matches gets washed out and they get at least a point; or Pakistan loses to Ireland, or that match gets washed out. Either way, the USA need to earn at least one point to be safe. Because if they lose to Ireland and Pakistan defeats Ireland, then Pakistan will go through.
For Babar’s side, they need to pray that both matches have results in their favor: Pakistan beat Ireland and USA lose to Ireland. If even one of these two matches is washed out, then USA will go through to Super 8 and Pakistan will have to return home.
Lest one forget, Canada and Ireland are also alive in the race to the Super 8, as they both can get to four points at maximum. But Canada face India next, and they already have a terrible NRR, and Ireland have a very poor NRR compared to Pakistan and USA. So these two teams will need a miracle to qualify for the next round ahead of either Pakistan or USA.
