KKR vs SRH Highlights And Report-IPL Qualifier 1: It was as clinical a victory as Kolkata Knight Riders could have hoped for against the marauding Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Qualifier 1 of IPL 2024 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Led by a fiery new-ball spell from Mitchell Starc, KKR restricted SRH to an under-par 159. The KKR batters made a mockery of the target of 160 runs as Shreyas Iyer and Venkatesh Iyer blasted 97* (44) for the third-wicket after a quick-fire start from Narine and Gurbaz.
Two-time champions KKR sealed their spot in the final, while SRH will have another shot to reach the final when they meet the winner of the Eliminator in Qualifier 2.
KKR vs SRH Highlights And Report-IPL Qualifier 1
Mitchell Starc, the most expensive player in IPL history, started the Qualifier 1 worthy of his price tag by knocking over the dangerous Travis Head for a duck. At the other end, Abhishek Sharma chipped straight to Russell at cover off Harshit Rana’s bowling. SRH slumped further in the 5th over when Starc struck twice. He bounced out Nitish Reddy, and on the next ball, Shahbaz Ahmed chopped on, as SRH were reeling at 39/4.
SRH stuck to their modus operandi, and despite the loss of four early wickets, Tripathi and Klaasen played their shots. Tripathi ramped Rana for a six, and Klaasen smashed Narine down the ground. They collected a few fours, but their partnership was broken by Chakravarthy when Klaasen was caught at deep mid-wicket while aiming for a maximum.
SRH’s hopes of reaching a par total took a huge dent when Tripathi got involved in a mix-up with Abdul Samad and got run-out in the 14th over. Narine castled Sanvir Singh, the Impact Player, for a golden duck. Captain Cummins provided some crucial runs in the final few overs, scoring 30 runs in 24 balls, but even he couldn’t prevent SRH from getting bowled out.

With no help now for the bowlers, the chase was pretty straightforward for KKR. Gurbaz, opening in place of Phil Salt, who has returned to England, started with a second-ball boundary against Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Cummins was smoked for two fours by Narine and a six by Gurbaz in the second over, in which he conceded 20 runs.
Gurbaz took down Kumar with a six and a four before falling to Natarajan for 23 (14). Venkatesh got going with a couple of boundaries, but Narine got out just after the powerplay, bounced out finally by Cummins.
But that was the last time SRH celebrated anything in this match, as Venkatesh and Shreyas absolutely walloped the bowlers around the park. The left-hander clobbered Cummins and Viyaskanth for a maximum each. With two more fours in the ninth over, KKR brought down the required run rate to six runs an over.
Shreyas was dropped by Head on the first ball of the 11th over, and Iyer added salt to the wounds by hitting a six on the next ball. The duo tore into the SRH bowlers, who looked helpless tonight against the Iyer pair.
After Venkatesh reached his half-century in 28 balls, Shreyas brought an end to the match by hammering Head for 6, 4, 6, 6 to remain not out on 58* (24).
Score summary: Sunrisers Hyderabad 159/10 in 19.3 overs (Rahul Tripathi 55, Mitchell Starc 3/34); Kolkata Knight Riders 164/2 in 13.4 overs (Shreyas Iyer 58, T Natarajan 1/22). KKR defeated SRH by 8 wickets.
