Sam Curran won the toss and elected to bowl first. Vidhwath Kaverappa, who replaced Kagiso Rabada, swung the ball and nipped out Faf du Plessis and Will Jacks in the powerplay. But Virat Kohli and Patidar, both of whom were given reprieves by the PBKS fielders multiple times, cashed in on their chances and were aggressive from the onset of their innings.
RCB finished the powerplay at 56/2, and then the pair accelerated further. Patidar smoked Rahul Chahar for three sixes in an over, and the duo walloped three sixes to Kaverappa and Arshdeep. Patidar raised his fifty in 21 balls before falling to Sam Curran.
Kohli, though, continued to pick up boundaries in support of Green and reached his half-century in 32 balls. After reaching his fifty, Kohli stepped into the sixth gear to hit a spree of boundaries against Livingstone, Curran, and Arshdeep. Kohli looked set for another IPL century but was dismissed by Arshdeep in the 17th over for 92 (47), caught at sweeper cover. Green cracked 46 (27) and Karthik blasted 18 (7) as RCB finished at 241.

In the chase, PBKS stuttered in the first over with the loss of Prabhsimran Singh to left-arm spinner Swapnil Singh. With no time and balls to waste, Rossouw, Bairstow, and Shashank Singh, who followed them, got the chase going by being at par with the required rate.
Rossouw muscled 9 fours and 3 sixes in his knock of 61 (27). However, he fell to leg-spinner Karn Sharma in the 9th over, caught at long-on. Bairstow (27 off 16) was dismissed by Ferguson, and Shashank, who scored 37 (19), was sent back by a sensational direct hit from Kohli.
Jitesh Sharma and Livingstone managed single-digit scores, as did three tailenders. PBKS’ 181 was miles off the target.
Score summary: Royal Challengers Bengaluru 241/7 in 20 overs (Virat Kohli 92, Harshal Patel 3/38); Punjab Kings 181/10 in 17 overs (Rilee Rossouw 61, Mohammed Siraj 3/43). RCB defeated PBKS by 60 runs.
