Aakash Chopra Criticises Virat Kohli 50 Vs SRH: Former Indian cricketer and now broadcaster Aakash Chopra has criticized Virat Kohli’s innings for Royal Challengers Bengaluru played against Sunrisers Hyderabad despite scoring a 50.
RCB took on SRH in Match 41 of IPL 2024 in Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium. On the back of half-centuries by Kohli and Rajat Patidar and a solid contribution by Cameron Green to RCB to 206 runs at the end of their 20.
In response, the SRH innings never looked like they were going into higher gear. While Abhishek Sharma did give them a quick start, the team could not keep the momentum going and would finish up at 171/8, a 35-run loss for what looked like the most exciting team in this year’s IPL.

- RCB Defeated SRH By 35 Runs
We mentioned that Virat Kohli scored a fifty in this match; in fact, he scored 51. But to give some context to the inning, the 35-year-old did so in 43 balls with a strike rate of 118.6.
With all the concerns about Virat and his strike rate going into the upcoming T20 World Cup, this inning can be seen by some as a net negative for the side. While he did get out in the 15th over, Kohli did not score a boundary after the sixth over.
Aakash Chopra Criticises Virat Kohli 50 Vs SRH
Reviewing the game in a video on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra had this to say about that Virat Kohli inning:
“Virat Kohli was very, very aggressive in the powerplay but slowed down after that. He probably scored only 19 runs off the last 25 balls he faced. He got out probably in the 14th or 15th over, but his last boundary came off the third ball of the sixth over. Not even a single boundary came from his bat in the eight-odd overs after the powerplay.”
Chopra went on to highlight that it was Rajat Patidar’s spectacular 50 in 20 balls and Cam Green’s 37-run inning in 20 balls that took RCB past the 200-run mark, saying,
“He tried a little but couldn’t hit. When he was going slow, Rajat Patidar managed the party. 27 runs were scored in an over from Mayank Markande. He hit four sixes. He took the team to a position from where they would go past 200 with a slight push. That push was given by Cameron Green.”
This was RCB’s second win in nine matches this season. They are still at the bottom of the table, with next to no chance of actually making it to the playoffs. But at least their fans slept well at night after a long time.
As for the team, they will play the Gujarat Titans in their next match on April 28 in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
