Aakash Chopra Asks Sam Curran To Score Some Runs: Former Indian cricketer and now broadcaster Aakash Chopra believes it is time for Punjab Kings stand-in captain Sam Curran to finally play a solid knock while opening the batting against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
PBKS will take on KKR in Match 42 of IPL 2024 in Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. The team’s regular captain, Shikhar Dhawan, is still out with an injury, which means Sam Curran will lead the team into this match.
In Dhawan’s absence as a captain and an opener, not only has the English all-rounder taken over the captain’s duties, but he has also been opening the PBKS innings along with Prabhsimran Singh.
In the two matches he has opened for the Kings this season, the 25-year-old has combined 26 runs in as many balls, failing to give the team a good start.

The season as a whole has not been the best for Sam Curran. While he has bowled well, taking 11 wickets and being versatile in the phases he bowls in, he has yet to shine as a batter this season. And his batting contributions are vital for PBKS, as he still plays as a complete all-rounder despite the introduction of the Impact Player Rule last season.
In the eight matches he has played so far, Sam Curran has scored 152 runs with an average of 19 and just one half-century.

Previewing the KKR vs. PBKS game on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra has urged Sam Curran to play a captain’s knock as an opener in the upcoming match.
“Who will I focus on? I am going towards Sam Curran because he is an 18.5-crore player. You are opening and bowling in good areas—in the powerplay and at the death. Play a captain’s knock and pick up wickets as well. He is picking up wickets, but can he contribute more runs as an opener?” said Chopra.
As stated above, Punjab Kings will take on the Kolkata Knight Riders in their next match. The team has not had a great IPL 2024 so far, as they are ninth on the table with four points in eight matches.
