Sanjay Manjrekar Names His Squad For T20 WC: Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Majrekar has named his 15-man India squad for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup, excluding Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya from the team.
The 2024 season of the IPL is being looked at as the audition stage for players looking to make the T20 World Cup squad, as the tournament will start right after the IPL on June 2 in the West Indies and the USA.
While the place of some players in the side is seemingly locked, a majority of players will have to prove themselves in the IPL.
But if Manjrekar’s squad is anything to go by, no one’s place is safe, as the former player now turned commentator does not see a place for senior players like Kohli and Hardik in the squad.

Virat Kohli is the current Orange Cap holder in IPL 2024, having scored 430 runs in nine matches with an average of 61.42. However, much has been made about his strike rate in T20s. His most recent inning against SRH saw him score 50 with a strike rate of 118.
On the other hand, Hardik Pandya is not having the best tournament. He is currently failing as a captain, making bowling changes and batting order blunders while MI languishes in eighth. He also has just 151 runs in eight matches with an average of just over 21 and has taken four wickets.

Breaking down Manjrekar’s squad, he has obviously named Rohit Sharma as the captain of the team, with Yashasvi Jaiswal as his opening partner.
He has filled up his middle order with RR captain Sanju Samson, Suryakumar Yadav, and two wicketkeepers: DC captain Rishabh Pant and LSG captain KL Rahul.
His two all-rounders are quite unconventional. While Ravindra Jadeja is an expected choice, picking Krunal Pandya ahead of his brother Hardik is certainly a bold choice.
The rest of the team is filled with bowlers, with Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal being the two frontline spinners. But it is the pace attack where there are the biggest surprises.
The trio of Jasrpit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Avesh Khan is expected, but naming two uncapped players, Harshit Rana and Mayank Yadav, is a choice for sure.
Mayank Yadav played only three matches this season for LSG before getting injured but impressed with his sheer pace. As for Harshit Rana, he has impressed by being the best pacer in the KKR squad.
Here is Sanjay Manjrekar’s squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup:
India will kick off their T20 World Cup campaign on June 5 against Ireland. They will then take on arch-rivals Pakistan on June 9, before finishing off the group stage with a match against the US on June 12 and against Canada on June 15.
