Booker T Wants New Wrestler for Imperium: Two-time WWE Hall of Famer Booker T wants to see recently dethroned NXT Champion Ilja Dragunov as a new member of the Imperium faction on WWE’s main roster.
The Mad Dragon’s lengthy reign with the NXT title ended at the white and gold brand’s Spring Breakin’ event, where Trick Williams captured the championship following a hellacious match. Ilja is now expected to be promoted to the main roster during the upcoming WWE Draft. He has been named on the list of Superstars eligible for the draft.
Booker T Wants New Wrestler for Imperium
In the most recent edition of his Hall of Fame podcast, six-time world champion Booker T said that he would like to see Dragunov become the latest member of Imperium, the faction led by former Intercontinental Champion Gunther.
Imperium member Giovanni Vinci was most recently excommunicated from the group when he was attacked by his tag partner Ludwig Kaiser on this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW.
Booker T states that Ilja Dragunov would be a great fit for the group, saying,
“I tell you what man, that’d be a great spot for him. You know what, because just being in that faction right there he won’t get lost in the shuffle or anything like that. He’s really really good and you’re gonna be looking and saying who can we put him with. Him being a part of that group right there you can put him against anybody and he can definitely go out there and shine no matter who you put him up against because he’s gonna have backup. So yeah, I can see that happening. That’d be a great faction for Ilja to be a part of.”
Ilja and Gunther have a long history in and outside of WWE. Before both men joined the promotion, they wrestled against one another all over Europe.
They have also had two matches in the WWE. Their first match was wrestled for Gunther’s (then named Walter) NXT UK Championship on a weekly episode of the show during the pandemic. Considered one of the greatest in WWE’s modern era, the two beat the hell out of each other as the champ retained his title.
Their second and final match came at NXT Takeover 36 in August 2021. The match was as brutal as their first one, with Daaragunov winning the title on that occasion.
