GT vs MI Match Highlights And Report-IPL: How will Mumbai Indians recover from the loss of a game that seemed in their pocket until the final few overs?
Hardik Pandya’s return to Ahmedabad, where he was booed by the crowd at the Narendra Modi stadium, turned into a shocker for the new MI captain, his side, and their fans as Mumbai failed to chase 48 runs in the last six overs with 7 wickets in hand.
Mohit Sharma, Rashid Khan, and Spencer Johnson choked the Mumbai middle-order, and Umesh Yadav closed out the game in the last over, which wasn’t without drama either, as GT won by 6 runs while defending 168. Jasprit Bumrah’s 3/14 went in vain.

Hardik Pandya, the new MI captain, won the toss and elected to bowl first. Wriddhiman Saha cracked four boundaries before being yorked by Jasprit Bumrah. Shubman Gill, the new GT skipper, got going steadily. He scored 31 runs in 22 balls and looked set for a big one – as he did last season against the same opposition in the Qualifier 2. However, he was caught at long-on off Chawla’s bowling.
Sai Sudharsan anchored the innings as he lost Azmatullah Omarzai and David Miller at the other end in quick succession. GT were given a boost in the death overs by Rahul Tewatia, who scored 22 (15).

In reply, Mumbai lost Ishan Kishan for a duck in the first over to Omarzai’s swing. The Afghanistan seamer also got rid of debutant Naman Dhir, who impressed with his cameo of 20 runs in 10 balls. MI got into control with Rohit Sharma and Dewald Brevis. Their third-wicket partnership of 77 (55) put MI on track for the run-chase; however, the wheels then fell off when both were in the dressing room by the 16th over.
MI required 48 runs from 36 balls with 7 wickets in hand, and then GT tightened the screws. Rashid conceded 8 runs in his last two overs, and Mohit conceded 13 in his last two overs with the wickets of Brevis and Tim David.
On his IPL debut, Spencer Johnson was pulled for a six by Tilak Varma on the first ball of the penultimate over, but the Aussie seamer had Varma caught in the deep on the next ball. He ended the over with the scalp of Coetzee.
With 19 needed off the last over, Hardik slammed Umesh for a six and a four on the first two balls but then got out on a mis-hit pull, caught at long-on. Umesh closed out the game against the likes of Chawla, Bumrah, and Mulani to seal a terrific come-from-behind win for Gujarat Titans.
Score summary: Gujarat Titans 168/6 in 20 overs (Sai Sudharsan, Jasprit Bumrah 3/14); Mumbai Indians 162/9 in 20 overs (Dewald Brevis 46, Azmatullah Omarzai 2/27). GT defeated MI by 6 runs.
