Matthew Wade Retires From Test Cricket: Australia’s former wicketkeeper batter Matthew Wade said no more to Test cricket to concentrate more on shorter formats of the game. The decision came right before the Sheffield Shield final, where his team, Tasmania, will battle Western Australia. This will be his 166th first-class cricket match.
Matthew Wade Retires From Test Cricket, Says Youngsters Shoved Him Out
Wade has played red-ball cricket 36 times in his career, and now the player will be playing more ODIs and T20Is. Wade opined that it wasn’t his form or his; it wasn’t the case that he couldn’t contribute anymore, but it was the rising young players who ‘shoved him out the door’.
“There certainly isn’t (an element of) ‘I’m not playing well enough or I don’t feel I can contribute enough,” Wade said.
“It’s more the younger players have managed to shove me out the door.”
Wade believes that stepping away from red-ball cricket will make him stronger and provide longevity to his career, which would help him play more games in the shorter format.
“Not playing the longer format of the game will give me an opportunity to get stronger, get in the gym a bit more, and have some longevity in that (shorter) format,” he said.
