Though losing stings, it could show you your weakness and induce a fire in you not to lose. Australia had that knock on their head early in the tournament. India, on the other hand, had been perfect till they reached the final, and sometimes perfection would blind you.

Australia’s lineage of winning big games continues. At one point in the tournament, their existence was hanging on the thread, but how they managed to grind in and keep the composure to again do it in the biggest game of cricket is absolutely incredible. Now they have six of those trophies on their shelf, including the one they bagged yesterday. On paper, their team wasn’t as good as the team that they defeated, but when the time emerged, they showed that they had the biggest heart to get it done.

A Batting Tragedy That Didn’t Get Backed by the Bowlers

Indian top-tier batters were almost flawless across the tournament. Rohit Sharma had always managed to give a great start, along with his opening pair, Shubman Gill. Rohit did hit well yesterday as well and even produced a decent score (47), but Gill, who had a lot of amazing nights at the Ahmedabad stadium in the IPL, bent his knee when it mattered most to the team. India lost three wickets at 81, and the batters struggled to find boundaries. The lower score and the wickets that fell caused an extra burden on the batters, and Australia capitalized on it really well, scrapping India at a vulnerable score of 240. Virat Kohli again showed his class, scoring 54, and KL Rahul topped India’s scoreboard with 66 runs. Everything seemed not to be enough on Sunday.

Kangaroos Fumbled As Well But Knew How to Wake Up

Even if you dip Australia deep, they could find a way up almost every time. And that’s what happened in the final. Australia lost their top three before reaching even 50. India had gained a bit of confidence, but it didn’t last long as Kangaroo’s ‘Head’ kick put them in trouble. Travis Head (137) and Marnus Labuschagne (58*) took them out of the water to reach the winning shore. As Cummins said before the game, they silenced the entire stadium to take the trophy home.
