Sreeja Akula Defends Crown at National Table Tennis Championships
On Monday, Sreeja Akula of RBI won her second consecutive women’s singles championship title by defeating Sutirtha Mukherjee of West Bengal 4-2 in the 84th UTT Inter-State Senior National Table Tennis Championships. G. Sathiyan also won his second men’s singles national title by defeating Harmeet Desai in straight games at the Gymnasium Hall of Jammu University. He had previously won the first crown in 2021 by defeating Sharath Kamal in the Panchkula Nationals. Both Sreeja and Sathiyan received a cash prize of Rs. 2.75 lakh each for their victories. As Per Sreeja Akula Defends Crown, Sreeja’s performance in the final was not her best, as she struggled at times. However, she managed to find a way out of difficult situations and surprised her opponent with unexpected moves. On the other hand, Sutirtha missed out on several opportunities to take advantage of favourable situations in the final, allowing her opponent to escape from difficult positions and Sreeja Akula Defends Crown.

Sutirtha played exceptionally well in the match, with her forehand shots being particularly impressive, including some incredible cross-court shots. However, Sreeja remained aggressive throughout the game and did not back down. Although Sutirtha won the first game, she missed opportunities to win the next three games, despite having two game points in each. Sreeja’s boldness and calm approach helped her secure a hard-fought victory over Sutirtha, a former national champion, with a score of 9-11, 14-12, 11-7, 13-11, 6-11, 12-10.
In the final match, Sathiyan was completely focused and played with great speed against Harmeet. He demonstrated his dominance with powerful forehand strokes and his backhand was equally impressive, leaving no room for Harmeet to challenge him. Sathiyan was truly in his element during the match.
Sathiyan was in control of the game except for the first one, which was too close for his comfort. He managed to win every game and dominate the show. Harmeet, on the other hand, was so frustrated that he lost steam and the desire to push Sathiyan further, resulting in a tame loss in the fourth game. The final scoreline was 11-9, 11-7, 11-8, 11-5 in favour of Sathiyan.
Jeet Chandra and Ankur Bhattacharjee from West Bengal won the men’s doubles trophy by defeating Mohammed Ali and Vansh Singhal from Telangana in straight games. On the other hand, Sreeja Akula and Diya Chitale put up a great performance to win the gold medal in the women’s doubles final by defeating Swastika Ghosh and Shruti Amrute from Maharashtra with a score of 3-1.
