Hardik Pandya is the biggest name in the IPL trade talk right now. Three teams are in serious talks with the Mumbai Indians about a deal for him. Those teams are Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals. An announcement could come at the start of November. The retention deadline is November 15. So Mumbai has a small window to either trade him or keep him for IPL 2027.
This started with a lot of interest. As many as seven teams asked Mumbai about Hardik. Only Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad stayed out. That list has now shrunk to the three teams in real talks. For Rajasthan Royals, the idea was a swap involving Yashasvi Jaiswal. KKR have been unwilling to give up a top Indian player. Cameron Green was mentioned as a possible piece, but his Ashes duties after IPL 2027 make that tricky.
Mumbai have not said they will trade him. Reports say talks are still early and a deal is far from certain. Hardik could still stay at Mumbai next season. His recent numbers explain some of the hesitation. Since he came back to Mumbai in 2024, he has not passed 225 runs in a season. His batting average has been under 25. His strike rate has been under 150. Mumbai finished ninth in IPL 2026 with only four wins from 14 games.
Mumbai are not in a strong spot in these talks. Seven teams asking sounds like leverage. But a player who has not topped 225 runs in three seasons and has not played since May is not going to bring a big return. That is why the packages are stalling. A deal mostly in cash may be the only one that works. Keeping him is also a fair choice. Hardik at his best is one of the few Indian all-rounders who fixes a team’s balance. November 15 is too soon to give up on a player still getting back to full fitness.
CSK’s Number 33 Teaser Sparks Hardik Pandya Trade Rumours as R Ashwin Reacts
The Chennai Super Kings posted a video with their mascot, Leo. In the video, fans saw a placard with the number 33. That is Hardik Pandya’s jersey number. People now think CSK might be hinting at a trade for Hardik before IPL 2027. The team has not confirmed any deal. The video could just be playing with the rumours. R Ashwin had an interesting reaction to it.
Mumbai Indians had a poor 2026 season. They finished ninth out of 10 teams. They won only 4 of their 14 league games. It was the second time in three years under Hardik that Mumbai missed the playoffs. Reports link CSK, Kolkata Knight Riders and other teams to a possible move. The retention deadline is November 15.
CSK chief executive Kasi Viswanathan earlier played down the rumours. He said the team had not held talks. He said they would look at options after finishing their season review. Mumbai Indians also said they were not talking about trades during their review.
Hardik started his IPL career with Mumbai in 2015. He spent seven seasons there. He moved to Gujarat Titans in 2022. He captained Gujarat to the title in their first season. He led them to the final again in 2023. Mumbai brought him back before 2024 in a big trade. He replaced Rohit Sharma as captain. Mumbai finished last in 2024 with four wins from 14 games. The team did better in 2025. They reached the playoffs and finished third. But they could not keep it going in 2026, as Hardik was hit by an injury.
CSK have changed their coaching staff for IPL 2027. New head coach Zaheer Khan has brought in former India pacer Mohit Sharma as bowling coach. Former South Africa all-rounder Albie Morkel and ex-England spinner Gareth Batty are assistant coaches. Assistant coach Sridharan Sriram and fielding coach James Foster will stay. CSK have let go of batting coach Michael Hussey, bowling coach Eric Simons and other staff members.
