Context
India was beaten by New Zealand in the semifinal of the 2019 World Cup, leaving millions of Indian fans in tears. But in 2023, not only did the Blues defeat the Kiwis in the league games, but also knocked them out of the tournament in the coldest way.
The match became famous for several records getting tumbled down. Virat Kohli became the first man to score 50 ODI centuries in the world. He overcame his idol, the cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar. It was heartfelt to watch him pay respect to the legend who was watching the match with the spectators.
The match also saw India secure a score of 397, which is the highest any team has ever scored in the knockout phase of the World Cup.
The highlight, however, was Mohammed Shami, who pulled off his career-best performance to secure seven wickets, becoming the first Indian player to ever secure the same.
