England fast bowler Mark Wood was breathing fire during West Indies’ second innings in the third ENG vs WI Test played at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
Mark Wood took a sensational five-wicket haul in his spell of 14 overs that bundled the visitors out for 175 runs, and that handed England a small target of 82 runs to win the third Test and white-wash the series.
All of Wood’s five wickets came in his last spell. He ripped into the last five West Indies batters with a thunderous display of reverse swing.
The most destructive of his wickets was that of tailender Alzarri Joseph, who could not put bat on an inswinging delivery from the lanky English seamer and saw his middle stump go for a ride.
From over the wicket angle, Wood went a bit across the crease as he hurled a pacy delivery into Joseph. It was full and swinging into the batter. Joseph, with little idea of the trajectory of the moving ball, played a straight drive to no avail.
The ball clattered into the middle-stump and uprooted it from the ground, sending it a significant distance back from its original position.

Apart from Joseph, Wood dismissed middle-order batter Kavem Hodge, wicket-keeper Joshua Da Silva, Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph. West Indies were blown away by a fiery spell from Mark Wood and they collapsed from 125/4 to 175 all out. Wood finished with impressive figures of 14-1-40-5.
In the first innings, West Indies scored 282 runs, to which England replied with 376, with wicket-keeper Jamie Smith top-scoring with 95, followed by Joe Root, who scored 87 runs.
