Why Will Jos Buttler Miss IPL Playoffs: As many as 8 England players will not be available for the IPL 2024 playoffs, though three of them—Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, and Jonny Bairstow—are from Punjab Kings, and their team has already been eliminated from the playoff race, yet their unavailability for the remainder of the tournament has been questioned.
Eight England players have either already left or will leave soon for home to prepare for the T20I series against Pakistan later this month and the T20 World Cup 2024 in June.
Fans of the teams of these English players who won’t be available for the last round of league-phase matches and the playoffs have been left disappointed and frustrated.
Apart from the above-mentioned three Punjab Kings players, the England players who won’t be available for their teams’ last league round match and the playoffs are Jos Buttler (Rajasthan Royals), Phil Salt (Kolkata Knight Riders), Reece Topley and Will Jacks (Royal Challengers Bangalore), and Moeen Ali (Chennai Super Kings).
It is to be noted that KKR have sealed their position in Qualifier 1, but will miss Phil Salt in the playoffs. RR, RCB, and CSK are still in the hunt for the playoffs. So Buttler, Salt, and Jacks will certainly be huge misses for them as they look to win their remaining league matches.
Why Will Jos Buttler Miss IPL Playoffs?
Rajasthan Royals opener and England’s T20I captain, Jos Buttler, has flown back home, RR confirmed on Monday. Buttler will miss RR’s last two league matches and the playoffs as he will be captaining England against Pakistan in a T20I series that starts on May 22.
Last month, England men’s cricket managing director Rob Key confirmed that the England players picked up for the T20Is against Pakistan and the T20 World Cup will be called home from the IPL ahead of the playoffs.
Earlier, it was believed that the England players would be available until the end of the league stage, which is May 19, but Buttler has left on May 13 as the ECB wants its players to be together and have rest for a week before the Pakistan series commences.
