Waqar Younis Compares Bumrah to Sale Steyn: Jasprit Bumrah has impressed the world by thrashing Pakistan batters in the last game, which turned the losing match in India’s favor. The 30-year-old Yorker king picked up 3 wickets, from which the stumps of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan were such game-changers. From 50-1 in 10 overs when chasing a comfortable total of 119 set by India, Pakistan fell short of 6 runs thanks to the terrific bowling show by Bumrh and Co.
Though Bumrah caused a huge crack on Pakistan’s World Cup dreams, their former cricketer Waqar Younis had some great words about the pacer. He praised the Indian bowler’s ability to understand the ‘conditions brilliantly to execute his plans’.
“Jasprit Bumrah is a class act. He is exceptionally smart and reads the conditions brilliantly to execute his plans. This isn’t the first time I’ve seen him excel, not just against Pakistan but against any opponent. He knows exactly what to do on different pitches. And yesterday, he was terrific. Even though he wasn’t given the new ball and came on in the third over, he was spot on, picking up the crucial wickets of Babar and Rizwan, which really broke the back of the Pakistan team.”
Waqar Younis Compares Bumrah to Sale Steyn
Younis said that Bumrah ‘has spread a sense of terror like Dale Steyn’. This causes batters to miss good opportunities. The legendary Proteas pacer was also present at the discussion.
“He has spread a sense of terror like Dale Steyn. This mental pressure weighs on the batters’ minds. Even when he bowls a poor delivery, they fear of losing their wicket against him which causes them to miss opportunities. I consistently praise him and firmly believe he is currently the premier white-ball bowler.”
Dale Steyn is amazed at Bumrah’s ability to adjust ‘length based on the conditions’.
“His greatest skill is his ability to expertly adjust his length. He has no trouble maintaining his line, whether it’s a wide yorker or a straight one. However, the key is his mastery of length variation. As discussed, when you bowl in India, bowling a touch fuller or a bit shorter can be crucial. And he has adapted to the conditions here seamlessly. This means batters get nothing easy – no half-volleys they can score freely.”
