Virat Kohli Six Runs Away From Huge Milestone: Indian batting great Virat Kohli is just six runs away from becoming the first Indian and fourth overall batter to have reached the 12000 runs mark in T20 cricket.
India will take on Afghanistan in the 3rd T20I of the three-match bilateral series on January 17th in Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium. This ground is like a second home to him, seeing he has been with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL since the league’s inception in 2008.
Virat Kohli Six Runs Away From Huge Milestone: Only 3 Players Achieved This Before
Only three players in the history of T20 cricket have crossed the 12000 run mark. The first was Kohli’s former RCB teammate Chris Gayle, who has scored 14562 runs in 455 innings. Considered the first great T20 batter, the West Indian has played T20 cricket all over the world and has the highest score in the format of 175*. He is also a 2-time World Champion
Next is Shoaib Malik, who has 12993 runs in 486 innings. He too has played franchise cricket around the world. He also captained Pakistan in the inaugural World T20 in 2007 and is also a World Champion.

The third, and as of yet final player to have breached the 12k mark is Kieron Pollard. He scored 12454 runs in 568 innings. The allrounder, like most West Indian players, has played T20 cricket anywhere possible. A legend of the sport and across several leagues, Pollard is also a T20 World Champion.
Virat Kohli now needs just six runs in the final T20I against Afghanistan to reach the lauded milestone. If he does so tonight, he will be the quickest player to reach the milestone, as he is currently on 11996 runs in the format in just 358 innings. He will also become the first player to reach 12k runs with an average of over 40. In fact, no player in T20 cricket above 10000 runs has an average of over 40.
India won the first two T20Is in the ongoing series against Afghanistan convincingly. The Men in Blue will now be looking to sweep the series against a solid Asian side with the 2024 T20 World Cup being less than six months away.
