Cristiano Ronaldo, also known as CR7, is a Portuguese football player. He plays as a forward for Al-Nassr. He also captains the Portugal national football team. Many fans and experts consider him one of the greatest players in football history.

Ronaldo has won five Ballon d’Or awards, and four European Golden Shoes. He has collected 35 major trophies during his career. These include five UEFA Champions League titles and the UEFA European Championship with Portugal.

He holds several major records. He has scored the most goals in Champions League history and also leads the competition in assists. He owns the records for most goals and assists at the European Championship. He also has the most appearances and goals in men’s international football. Ronaldo is the only player to score 100 goals for four different clubs.

Ronaldo started his professional career with Sporting CP. In 2003, he joined Manchester United. During his first spell there, he won three straight Premier League titles. He won the Champions League, and the FIFA Club World Cup. His outstanding 2007-08 season earned him his first Ballon d’Or at the age of 23.

In 2009, Ronaldo moved to Real Madrid in a world-record transfer at the time. He helped them win four Champions League titles between 2014 and 2018. He also won two La Liga titles. Ronaldo joined Juventus in 2018. He helped the club win two Serie A titles. He returned to Manchester United in 2021 before moving to Al-Nassr in 2023.

Top 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Cristiano Ronaldo

Life-Saving Heart Surgery at 15

At 15, Ronaldo was diagnosed with tachycardia. It is a racing heart condition that could have ended his career before it started. He underwent successful laser heart surgery and was back training just days later. That early brush with disaster showed the incredible resilience that would define his legendary career. A second chance he grabbed with both feet.

Expelled for Throwing a Chair at a Teacher

At 14, a teacher mocked his Madeiran accent and his family’s poverty. In a fit of rage, Ronaldo hurled a chair at the teacher and was expelled the next day. He considers that moment a turning point in his life. It taught him to channel his anger into proving people wrong – on the pitch.

Named After a US President, Not a Footballer

Everyone assumes he was named after Brazilian striker Ronaldo. But the truth is stranger. His father was a huge fan of Ronald Reagan, the American actor-turned-president. So he named his son “Ronaldo” in honour of Reagan. A peculiar origin story for one of football’s greatest names. No Brazilian connection at all.

Begged for Leftover Burgers as a Kid

Before fame and wealth, young Ronaldo and his friends would knock on the back door of a local McDonald’s after training, asking for leftover burgers to stave off hunger. He has publicly expressed deep gratitude to the women who helped him then. Those humble hunger pangs fuelled his drive to succeed.

‘No Tattoos’ Rule Is for Blood Donation

In a sport full of body art, Ronaldo’s skin is famously ink-free. The surprising reason? He is a regular blood and bone marrow donor. Tattoos can require a donor to wait months before giving again. So he stays clean-skinned to keep saving lives. A sacrifice that saves others.

The ‘Fetal Position’ Sleep Master

Ronaldo doesn’t stick to one long sleep. He reportedly takes 5-6 short naps of about 90 minutes each daily, always curled in the fetal position. This polyphasic sleep method is designed to aid muscle recovery and performance. Even his sleeping habits are optimised for greatness. Rest like a champion.

Gifted iPhones to All Real Madrid Staff

During a pre-season US tour, Ronaldo surprised the entire Real Madrid staff – from physiotherapists to security guards – by buying them all the latest iPhones and Apple Watches. Not just teammates, but everyone behind the scenes. A quiet gesture of gratitude that shows his class off the pitch too.

Secret Love for Ricky Martin and Dancing

On the field, he’s fierce. Off it, he’s a fan of pop music. He loves Ricky Martin, especially “Livin’ La Vida Loca”. His Portuguese teammate Bruno Fernandes has revealed that Ronaldo is also “good at dancing”. A softer, groovier side to the goal machine. Who knew?

The Unusual ‘Cry Baby’ Nickname

During his teenage days, Ronaldo was known by a peculiar nickname: “Cry Baby”. He earned it because he would get upset and cry when his friends failed to score after he had passed to them. A perfectionist even as a kid. He wanted every assist to become a goal.

An Airport and a $1.4 Billion Empire

His hometown airport in Madeira, Portugal, was renamed Madeira International Airport Cristiano Ronaldo. In 2025, he became the first footballer to join the billionaire club, with an estimated net worth of $1.4 billion built through his CR7 empire and a record Al Nassr contract. From begging burgers to owning airports.
