Former German international Lothar Matthaus urged Ter Stagen to leave Barcelona if he wants to take part in the FIFA World Cup 2026.
“In my opinion, Ter Stegen will no longer play for Barcelona. He needs to play in order to fulfil his World Cup dream. If he wants to be at the World Cup, he has to move,” he told Bild.
Lothar also asked the goalkeeper to accept that Barcelona have other plans.
“I understand Ter Stegen; he has performed well, been captain and has his private life in Barcelona. But he has to accept that Barcelona has other ideas, other plans.”
