Sunrisers Leeds are a professional men’s and women’s cricket franchise competing in England’s 100-ball cricket competition. Based at Headingley in Leeds, the franchise was previously known as Northern Superchargers before changing its name in 2026 following its acquisition by Sun Group, the owners of Indian Premier League team Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The franchise has competed in The Hundred since the competition began in 2021, with separate men’s and women’s teams representing the Leeds and Yorkshire region. Its women’s side won the championship in 2025 under the Superchargers’ name, while the men’s team has continued to pursue its first title.

Leeds retained much of the women’s championship-winning group for the 2026 season, but the team could not defend its trophy after losing to Trent Rockets in the final. The men’s team also reached the Eliminator in 2026 before losing to Manchester Super Giants, leaving both sides looking ahead to the next edition.

What Is Sunrisers Leeds?

Leeds are one of the eight franchises in The Hundred, a professional cricket competition that uses a 100-ball format instead of the traditional 120-ball T20 innings. The franchise fields separate men’s and women’s teams, allowing it to compete for both championships each season.

The team was originally established as Northern Superchargers in 2021 and played under that name for five seasons. Sun Group acquired the franchise in 2025 and renamed it Sunrisers Leeds ahead of the 2026 tournament, bringing its identity in line with the group’s wider Sunrisers cricket brand.

The franchise plays its home matches at Headingley, one of England’s best-known cricket grounds. Its squads combine English domestic players with international cricketers, providing local talent with opportunities to compete alongside established names from international cricket and overseas leagues.

History of Sunrisers Leeds

The franchise began competing in The Hundred in 2021 as Northern Superchargers. During its first four seasons, the men’s and women’s teams experienced different levels of success, with the women’s side reaching the final in 2023 and the men’s team developing its squad around England internationals and overseas players.

The women’s team reached its first final in 2023 but lost to Southern Brave. It returned to the final in 2025 and defeated Southern Brave to win the championship, securing the franchise’s first Hundred title in either competition. Phoebe Litchfield led the tournament’s run-scoring charts that season, while Annabel Sutherland made important contributions with both bat and ball.

Ahead of the 2026 season, the franchise adopted the Leeds name following the change of ownership. The men’s side retained Harry Brook and Brydon Carse, appointed Daniel Vettori as head coach and brought in players including Mitchell Marsh and Nathan Ellis. The women’s team retained Litchfield, Sutherland and Kate Cross, while Dani Gibson became captain and Adrian Birrell took over as head coach.

The 2026 season brought mixed results. The men’s team reached the Eliminator but lost to Manchester Super Giants by 20 runs, while the women reached the final after defeating Southern Brave in the Eliminator. However, Trent Rockets beat the defending women’s champions by eight wickets in the final, ending Leeds’ hopes of retaining their title.

Sunrisers Leeds Winners List

Leeds’ championship history includes the women’s title won in 2025 under the Superchargers’ name. The franchise has yet to win the men’s Hundred competition.

The women’s side secured its first championship in 2025, when it was still known as Northern Superchargers. After rebranding as Leeds, the team returned to the final in 2026 but lost to Trent Rockets by eight wickets at Lord’s.

Sunrisers Leeds Men’s Team

The men’s team has featured several England internationals and overseas T20 specialists since the start of The Hundred. Harry Brook and Brydon Carse have been associated with the franchise since its early years, while the 2026 squad included international players such as Mitchell Marsh, Ryan Rickelton and Nathan Ellis.

Brook’s batting has been one of the team’s major strengths, and he remained with the franchise after its rebranding. The addition of experienced overseas players strengthened the squad as Leeds continued its search for a first men’s championship.

Sunrisers Leeds Men’s Captain and Coach

Zak Crawley captained Leeds in the men’s competition in 2026, while Daniel Vettori served as head coach. Vettori also coaches Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League, making his appointment a link between the two franchises under the same ownership group.

Sunrisers Leeds Men’s Squad for 2026

The 2026 men’s squad included:

  • Zak Crawley (captain)
  • Abrar Ahmed
  • Tom Alsop
  • Harry Brook
  • Brydon Carse
  • Nathan Ellis
  • Benny Howell
  • Tom Lawes
  • Daniel Lawrence
  • Mitchell Marsh
  • Liam Patterson-White
  • Matthew Potts
  • Ryan Rickelton
  • Reece Topley
  • Charlie Allison
  • Matty Revis
  • Edward Barnard

The squad combined England internationals with overseas players who have experience in major T20 competitions. Brook and Crawley offered batting options, Marsh and Lawrence added all-round ability, and bowlers such as Carse, Ellis, Ahmed and Topley provided a range of pace and spin choices.

Leeds reached the 2026 men’s Eliminator but could not progress to the final. Manchester Super Giants posted 186/4 before restricting Leeds to 166/7, with Josh Tongue taking four wickets to decide the contest.

Sunrisers Leeds Women’s Team

The women’s team established itself as a major contender in The Hundred before winning the 2025 championship. Phoebe Litchfield, Annabel Sutherland and Kate Cross were among the players who contributed to the title-winning campaign, and all three remained with the franchise for 2026.

In 2026, Leeds again reached the final after finishing the league stage strongly and beating Southern Brave in the Eliminator. The team was unable to defend its title, however, as Trent Rockets bowled it out for 91 before completing the chase with eight wickets remaining.

Sunrisers Leeds Women’s Captain and Coach

Dani Gibson captained the women’s team in 2026, while Adrian Birrell was appointed head coach. Birrell replaced Lisa Keightley, who had guided the franchise to the 2025 title before moving to MI London.

Sunrisers Leeds Women’s Squad for 2026

The 2026 women’s squad included:

  • Dani Gibson (captain)
  • Hannah Baker
  • Claudie Cooper
  • Kate Cross
  • Jess Jonassen
  • Katie Jones
  • Phoebe Litchfield
  • Cassidy McCarthy
  • Deepti Sharma
  • Chloe Skelton
  • Bryony Smith
  • Annabel Sutherland
  • Emily Windsor
  • Lauren Winfield-Hill
  • Darcey Carter
  • Sophia Turner

The squad included experienced international players such as Litchfield, Sutherland, Deepti Sharma and Jess Jonassen, alongside English domestic cricketers. Their combination of batting depth, all-round options and varied bowling styles helped the team reach the 2026 final.

In the final against the Trent Rockets, Sutherland top-scored for Leeds with 25, while Gibson added 22. The rest of the batting order struggled, and the team was dismissed for 91. Trent Rockets reached 92/2 in just 54 balls to win by eight wickets.

Sunrisers Leeds Format in The Hundred

The Hundred uses 100 legal balls per innings, with each team trying to score as many runs as possible before its innings ends. The format differs from T20 cricket, which allows 120 legal balls per innings.

Each bowler can deliver five consecutive balls, with captains able to ask the same bowler to deliver another five. The tournament features a league stage followed by playoffs, giving the best-performing teams a chance to compete for the championship.

Leeds enter separate men’s and women’s competitions, each with its own table and knockout matches. The men’s and women’s teams play home fixtures at Headingley, while away matches take place at other grounds around England and Wales.

Sunrisers Leeds Home Ground

Venue: Headingley, Leeds

Headingley is the home ground of Leeds and Yorkshire County Cricket Club. Located in Leeds, the venue has a long history of hosting domestic and international cricket and provides the franchise with its home base for The Hundred.

The ground hosts matches for both the men’s and women’s teams during the competition. Playing at Headingley allows the franchise to connect with Yorkshire cricket supporters while bringing leading domestic and overseas players to the region.

Sunrisers Leeds Ownership

Leeds are owned by Sun Group, the Indian media and business group that also owns Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. The group acquired a 100% stake in the Northern Superchargers franchise during The Hundred’s ownership changes and renamed the team before the 2026 season.

The rebranding brought the franchise into the wider Sunrisers identity, with a new name and orange-based team colours. It also connected the Leeds team with a group that already operates a major franchise in Indian cricket.

Women’s Hundred Champions in 2025

The franchise won its first Hundred title in the women’s competition in 2025, when it was known as Northern Superchargers. The team defeated Southern Brave in the final to claim its maiden championship.

Back-to-Back Women’s Final Appearances

The women’s team reached the final in both 2025 and 2026. It won the first of those matches but lost to Trent Rockets in the 2026 decider, finishing the season as runners-up.

Phoebe Litchfield’s 2025 Season

Phoebe Litchfield was the leading run-scorer in the 2025 women’s Hundred, finishing with 292 runs. Her performances were an important part of the Superchargers’ title-winning campaign and helped her retain a central role after the franchise changed its name.

2026 Women’s Final

Leeds were bowled out for 91 in the 2026 final against Trent Rockets. Trent Rockets reached 92/2 in 54 balls, winning by eight wickets and preventing Leeds from becoming the second team to retain the women’s Hundred title.

2026 Men’s Eliminator

The men’s team reached the Eliminator in 2026 but lost to Manchester Super Giants by 20 runs. Harry Brook and Ryan Rickelton produced useful contributions, but the side could not overcome the target set by Manchester.
