Sunrisers Hyderabad Defeats CSK By 6 Wickets: Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Chennai Super Kings in Match 18 of IPL 2024 in what some might consider an upset, but it is not easy to claim that at this stage of the tournament.
Known for their exploits with the bat this season so far, SRH had to show off how good their bowling was when they won the toss and decided to field first in Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. And that looked like a decent decision as the ball showed some movement in the first few overs.
Sunrisers Hyderabad Defeats CSK By 6 Wickets
Sunrisers capitalized on the assistance from the pitch when they scalped Rachin Ravindra’s wicket in the fourth over with the team score being 25/1.
While captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ajinkya Rahane hit some beautiful boundaries, they were not able to accelerate in front of SRH’s pace factory, led by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Gaukwas scored 26-off-21 when he was dismissed in the eighth over. But from this point, Rahane and an incoming Shivam Dube find a decent partnership.
The 65-run partnership saw Dube score a quickfire 45-off-24 before being dismissed in the 14th over, with the score being 119/3.

CSK was never able to accelerate in the death overs, scoring just 38 runs in the final five to take the score to a respectable but low 165/5 at the end of their twenty.
The Super Kings came into this match without their two strike bowlers so far in the tournament, Matheesha Pathirana and Mustafizur Rahman.
The Hyderabad-based franchise looked to take the game away in the first few overs as Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma attacked right from the first over. By the time Sharma was dismissed for 37 in 12 balls, SRH was 46/1 in the third over. From here, Head and an incoming Aiden Markram formed a sensible partnership of over 50 runs.
When Head was dismissed by Maheesh Theekshana, SRH needed less than a run a ball and the innings were in the 10th over.
Matters looked to enter the complicated avenue when Markram was dismissed after scoring a 50. SRH still needed 33 runs in six overs. After Markram got out, Shahbaz Ahmed and Heinrich Klassen played at less than a 100-strike rate.
Despite that, SRH needed just six runs at the end of the 18th over. Here, Nitish Kumar Reddy hit a six off of the first ball of the 19th over and took the match home.
With this win, Sunrisers Hyderabad climbed to fifth in the league table with four points in four matches. They will face the Punjab Kings in their next match on April 9 in Mullanpur’s Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium.
As for Chennai Super Kings, they might not have lost any positions in the league table, but they sure lost some footing in the race to the top of the leaderboard, at four points in four matches, CSK will take on Kolkata Knight Riders in their home ground of Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium on April 8.
