Shreyas Iyer vs Mohammed Siraj: This is a proper clash of form vs control. Shreyas Iyer has clearly changed his game this season. Earlier, short balls troubled him. Now he is hitting them freely. That jump from struggling to dominating that length is a big shift. It means bowlers have one less weakness to target. His chasing numbers show the real impact. Scoring 621 runs in winning chases at an average above 120 is not normal. It tells you he stays till the end and finishes games. That 71* in a 260+ chase is the best example of how calm he is under pressure.
On the other side, Mohammed Siraj is doing a very clear job. He is not trying too many things. He is just hitting good lengths early and not giving runs. An economy under 7 in powerplay this season is huge because most teams are scoring very fast.
His role with Kagiso Rabada is simple. Take early wickets or at least slow things down. When they reduced teams like KKR early, the whole game changed in the first six overs itself.
Their past numbers slightly favour Siraj. Getting Iyer out twice and keeping him at a lower strike rate shows he knows how to bowl to him. But that was before this new version of Iyer. So the real contest is timing. If Siraj bowls to Iyer early, he has a better chance. If Iyer comes in after the powerplay, he will be much harder to stop.
In the spotlight: Shreyas Iyer vs Mohammed Siraj
The battle between Shreyas Iyer and Mohammed Siraj is about form against control.
Iyer is in top touch this season. He has 309 runs in 8 matches with an average above 60 and a strike rate around 174. He is leading PBKS from the middle order and finishing games. He has also done well in chases, already guiding the team in big 200-plus targets.
Siraj has improved as the season has gone on. He has 8 wickets in 8 matches and has been more consistent recently. In his last few games, his economy has been under 7. He is leading the pace attack with the new ball.
Their past record is quite even. Iyer has scored 46 runs against Siraj in the IPL, while Siraj has dismissed him twice. That shows Siraj can trouble him if he gets his lines right.
This battle will depend on timing. If Siraj gets Iyer early, GT can control the middle overs. If Iyer settles in, he can take the game away quickly. Siraj needs early movement and tight lines. Iyer needs a few balls to settle. After that, he usually takes over.
PBKS vs GT Preview: Deep Batting vs Strong Bowling Showdown
Gujarat Titans rely a lot on their top three. players like Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler score most of the runs. if they fire, GT look strong. if they fail, the middle order still looks shaky.
On the other side, Punjab Kings bat deep. They don’t depend on just one or two players. Shreyas Iyer controls the middle. Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh attack early. This gives them more ways to win games.
The big difference is bowling. GT look more settled here. Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada can take wickets early, and Rashid Khan controls the middle overs. That balance helped them defend low totals recently.
PBKS have the opposite problem. their batting is strong but bowling leaks runs. Even Arshdeep Singh has been expensive in many games. They conceded 222 in the last match and still lost, which shows the issue clearly.
So this game is about two styles. GT play more controlled cricket with strong bowling. PBKS play aggressive cricket with deep batting.
