Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has predicted that Pat Cummins’ side to defeat India in the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25.
India and Australia will clash in what promises to be an exciting five-match Test series, starting on November 22 in Australia. This is the first time since the 1992/93 series that these two sides will compete in a five-match Test series.
India are the current holders of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. The Asian giants have defeated Australia in their last four Test series, including two in Australia.
On the 2018-19 tour, India became the first-ever Asian team to win a series Down Under. Two years later, they repeated their feat, this time in unreal circumstances as they kept losing players to injury and bounced back after being bowled out for their lowest Test score of 36. India’s victory at the Gabba in the last Test of that series is one of the most famous Test match wins in history.
Australia’s Got a Bit of a Point to Prove Against India: Ricky Ponting Predicts Border Gavaskar Trophy
Speaking on the ICC Review, Ponting backed Australia to win the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 3-1. He reckons Australia have a point to prove, having lost the last two home series against India.
Ponting said,
“It’s going to be a competitive series, and, as I said, I think Australia’s got a bit of a point to prove against India in Australia on the back of what’s happened in the last two series here. We are back to five Tests as well, which is the other really important thing about this series. It’s only been four Tests the last couple of times. Five Tests, I think everyone’s really excited by that, and I don’t know if there’d be too many drawn games.”
“I’m obviously going to tip Australia to win, and I’m never going to tip against Australia. There will be a draw somewhere, and there will be some bad weather somewhere, so I’m going to say 3-1 to Australia.”
