Rajasthan Royals defeated the Gujarat Titans in an absolutely thrilling contest in IPL 2026, with over 400 runs scored and the match coming right down to the wire.
Tonight’s GT vs RR game was Match 9 of the 2026 season of the Indian Premier League. The match was played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and saw the away team win the toss and decide to bat first, becoming the first team to do so this season.
Rajasthan Royals Beat Gujarat Titans In A Thriller
The explosive opening duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi gave RR a tremendous start. Together, the two made 69 runs in the powerplay without losing a wicket.
However, immediately after the end of the fielding restrictions, Sooryavanshi was dismissed by GT’s stand-in captain Rashid Khan after making 31 off 18.
Jaiswal stabilised the innings at this point, alongside Dhruv Jurel. The two took the team past the 100-run mark and the 10th over mark as well. Jaiswal, after scoring a half-century, was bowled by Kagiso Rabada in the 13th over while trying to pick up the run rate. He made 5 off 36.
Royals captain Riyan Parag hit a six on the first ball he faced but was dismissed on his fourth by Prasidh Krishna, making eight runs. In the same over, the incoming Shimron Hetmyer edged a ball to the keeper while at zero. But the umpire gave it not-out, and GT refused to review that decision. The West Indies batter repaid that favour by hitting two sixes on the next two deliveries.
Hettie got out after making 18 off eight off Ashok Sharma, who bowled the fastest delivery of the season tonight at 154 kmph. Donovan Ferreira missed today as well, making just a single run. Jurel, at this time, was batting at a near-100 strike rate but decided to pace things up with a few boundaries of his own.

At 166/5 at the start of the 17th over, RR needed someone to take the load of scoring at the death, which was picked up by Dhruv Jurel. He would go on to score his fifth IPL half-century and ended the night at 75 off 42, his highest T20 score.
Rajasthan finished their innings at a respectable score of 210/6. While there was not much for the pacer on this pitch, it did have some spin, so it looked about par for the score.
In response, the Titans got off to a flying start to their chase. Sai Sudharsan was on song today. While the score was 56/0 at the end of the powerplay, the lifting of restrictions did not put a cap on the flow of runs.
In the eighth over, Sudharsan reached his half-century. Later in that very over, bowled by Riyan Parag, Kumar Kushagra, the replacement for an injured Shubman Gill, was dismissed for 18 off 14.
Sudharsan took the team past the 100-run mark in the 10th over; it seemed that he wanted to finish the match on his own. He was supported by the No. 3 batter, Jos Buttler, who also looked on song.
The collapse started in the 11th over, with the fall of Sai Sudharsan for 73 off 44 at the hands of Ravi Bishnoi. Then, in the 13th, Bishnoi dismissed Glenn Phillips for three, and then Washington Sundar later in that over for four off two.
Nandre Burger dismissed Jos Buttler for 26 off 14 in the 14th over. At 133/5, GT fans would have begun to sweat. Ravi Bishnoi took his fourth in the 15th over, dismissing the dangerous Rahul Tewatia for 12 off six.
The run-out of Shahrukh Khan at the end of that over meant that the Gujarat Titans were reeling at 161/7 with Rashid Khan and Kagiso Rabada. For RR, the game looked in the bag.
50 runs required in the last five overs at a required run rate of 10. In the 16th, 10 runs were made, as were in the 17th. The two GT batters on the pitch were making it work.
The 18th over by Sandeep Sharma went for 15 runs. Now, only 15 were required in the final two. What came next was a masterclass in death bowling.
The 19th over bowled by Jofra Archer saw the Englishman concede only four runs, leaving Tushar Deshpande 11 runs to defend in the final over. Deshpande, who had bowled well earlier in the inning too, conceded just four runs and dismissed Rashid Khan as the Rajasthan Royals won this match by six runs.
For his excellent spell of 4/41, where he dismantled the Titans’ middle order, Ravi Bishnoi was named the Player of the Match.
With a win in this GT Vs RR IPL 2026 game, the Royals now have two wins in two this season and have shot up to the top of the league table. Meanwhile, with two losses in a row, the Titans stand seventh in the league.
