BCCI recently denied the central contract to Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer pointing out that the players denied to participate in first-class cricket and failed to provide a valid reason for doing so. BCCI took this decision as more players are giving priority to IPL than domestic Test cricket as the franchise league fills the pocket considerably more. The board took this decision to warn the players not to miss out on the Ranji Trophy.
But there is a slight problem that comes with it. Fans went crazy on social media about BCCI’s ‘biassed’ rules that apply only to certain players. The latest criticism is from former Indian player Praveen Kumar.
Praveen Kumar wants BCCI to Scold Hardik Pandya
Praveen Kumar went furious on Shubankar Mishra’s YouTube channel talking about BCCI’s double standard when it comes to certain players. He alleged that Hardik Pandya ‘hasn’t played 60-70 Tests’ and BCCI should ‘scold him’ to play all formats.
“Is Hardik Pandya from the moon? Why are the rules different for players? The BCCI should scold him with instructions for playing in all formats. He hasn’t played 60-70 Tests. India need him and he should be ready for Test cricket,” Praveen Kumar said on Shubankar Mishra’s YouTube channel.
Praveen also asked the board to inform Pandya that he would be considered only for ODIs and T20 cricket.
“Can he give in writing that he will not be a part of Test cricket? The BCCI is at fault. You can’t have different rules for different players. If there is an injury concern, the board should reveal it. Hardik should be informed that he will be considered for T20 cricket and one-day internationals.”
Bigger Picture
This isn’t the first time BCCI has been accused of practicing favoritism in team selection. Sanju Samson, who has far better batting and wicket-keeping statistics than a lot of Indian team starters, was omitted from the squad by the captain Rohit Sharma, coach Rahul Dravid, and the selection committee. Fans have questioned their integrity before, and still no action has been taken on the concerns put forward.
