Punjab captain Sam Curran won the toss and elected to bat first. Curran and Prabhsimran Singh got PBKS off to a strong start with 52 runs in 5.2 overs as the right-hander hit three fours and three sixes.
However, Mohit Sharma dismissed him, caught behind, at 5.3 over, and from thereon, GT took control of the rest of Punjab’s innings. The GT bowlers were so much in control that Punjab could manage only 90 runs in 14.3 overs from the first wicket.
Noor Ahmad struck with Rossouw’s wicket in his first over and that of Liam Livingstone in his third. In between these, Rashid Khan bowled three overs for only 11 runs and scalped Curran.
Then came left-arm finger-spinner Sai Kishore in the act. After being hit for a six by Jitesh Sharma, Kishore bowled the PBKS keeper. In his next two overs, Kishore got rid of the in-form PBKS batters Ashutosh Sharma and Shashank Singh, caught at deep extra cover and caught and bowled, respectively. Meanwhile, Rashid finished another miserly spell: 4-0-15-1.
Gill used Kishore’s last over in the 19th over, in which Harpreet Brar smoked a four and a six but holed out at long-on. Kishore finished with his best IPL figures of 4/33.

In the pursuit of 143, Saha’s struggle of 13 (11) was ended by Arshdeep Singh, before Gill and Sai Sudharsan’s partnership of 41 (35) steadied GT in the chase.
Punjab then stormed back into the game with quick wickets. Livingstone dismissed Gill, caught at long-off, and David Miller, bowled. Sudharsan, bowled by Curran, and Azmatullah Omarzai, caught by Jitesh on Harshal Patel’s bowling, were next to follow.
At 103/5 in the 16th over, PBKS had a decent chance in the game, but GT knew they needed only one partnership and a few lusty blows in it to kill the chase. That came from their iceman: Rahul Tewatia.
Tewatia started off with a first-ball boundary. Then, in the 17th over, he took two fours in a 13-run over from Brar. Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan killed the chase in the 18th over, by Kagiso Rabada, in which they took 20 runs.
Even though Harshal took the wickets of Shahrukh and Rashid in the 19th over, only one run was needed off six balls, which Tewatia achieved with a boundary, remaining unbeaten on 36 (18).
Score summary: Punjab Kings 142/10 in 20 overs (Prabhsimran Singh 35, Sai Kishore 4/33); Gujarat Titans 146/7 in 19.1 overs (Rahul Tewatia 36, Harshal Patel 3/15). GT defeated PBKS by 3 wickets.
