Nepal achieved a historic milestone on Tuesday, defeating the West Indies by 19 runs in the first T20I of their three-match series in Sharjah. The win, which marked Nepal’s first-ever triumph over a Test-playing nation, gives them a 1-0 lead in the series.
Nepal vs West Indies: Here Is What Happened
Batting first after West Indies won the toss, Nepal faced early setbacks. Kushal Bhurtel was stumped for just 4, and Aasif Sheikh fell cheaply to Jason Holder, leaving the team at a precarious 12 for 2. However, captain Rohit Paudel and Kushal Malla steadied the ship with a 58-run partnership. Paudel, in particular, took advantage of some wayward bowling from Ramon Simmonds, hitting two boundaries off his two overs.
Despite the solid foundation, Nepal’s middle-order faltered as they lost wickets quickly in the 19th over. Gulsan Jha’s quick-fire 22, including two sixes, provided some late momentum, but Nepal were restricted to 148 for 8. Holder was the standout bowler for West Indies, claiming 4 for 20, while debutant Navian Bidaisee took 3 for 29.
In reply, West Indies started aggressively but lost wickets at regular intervals. Karan KC’s early breakthrough, dismissing Kyle Mayers for just 5, was followed by key dismissals, including that of Ackeem Auguste. West Indies captain Akeal Hosein and Fabian Allen did fight back, with a late flurry of 19 runs off Sompal Kani’s over bringing the equation down to 30 from the last two overs.
However, Karan KC dismissed Hosein in the penultimate over, and although Allen hit two boundaries off the first three balls of the final over, the chase faltered. Allen was dismissed on the last ball of the innings as Nepal sealed a historic victory.
