MS Dhoni Wins 150th IPL Match: Former CSK captain MS Dhoni created history on Sunday night at Chepauk by becoming the first player in the IPL to win 150 matches!
One of the few players to have played in all 17 IPL seasons, Dhoni has become the face of the competition over the years with his unparalleled success as CSK’s captain—apart from the 5 IPL trophies, CSK have qualified for the playoffs the most number of times—and his cool batting show.
When CSK was suspended for the 2016 and 2017 IPL seasons, Dhoni was part of the Rising Pune Supergiant franchise.
On Sunday in Chennai, CSK defeated Pat Cummins’ Sunrisers Hyderabad by a huge margin of 78 runs. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 98 runs, Daryl Mitchell scored 52, and pacer Tushar Deshpande picked up four wickets, including those of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma in the powerplay. This was CSK’s best performance with the ball this season, as they downed the destructive SRH line-up.

With this win, the 42-year-old Dhoni now has 150 IPL match victories under his belt. Next on this list, with 133 wins each, are his long-time CSK teammate Ravindra Jadeja, who played for CSK, RR, and the now-defunct Gujarat Lions, and Rohit Sharma, the former Mumbai Indians captain and former Deccan Chargers batsman.
Suresh Raina, another CSK legend and former Gujarat Lions captain, won 125 IPL matches in his career, and so has veteran wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik.

Meanwhile, talking about Dhoni, the 42-year-old whipped a four off his first ball against SRH. He’s been in a jaw-dropping boundary-hitting form this season. Dhoni has cracked 96 runs in 37 balls (a strike rate of 259), walloping 9 fours and 8 sixes. He’s not been dismissed even once this season so far.
Under a new skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK has won five matches and lost four so far. At the time of writing, they are in the third position in the points table.
