The Mumbai Indians Women’s Team has defeated the Delhi Capitals Women in a dominating fashion in the third match of the Women’s Premier League 2026. This comes after their defeat in the opening match of the season to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Today was Match 3 of WPL 2026, played at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. It was the Capitals that won the toss and decided to bowl first, a natural decision in this stadium.

The Indians’ start to their innings, much like their last match, was not promising, as opener Amelia Kerr was dismissed for a duck in the second over of the match.

Following this wicket, the other opener, Gunalan Kamalini, kept struggling to find runs. However, the incoming Nat Sciver-Brunt hit the ground running from the get-go, hitting two boundaries in her first five deliveries faced.

At the end of the powerplay, the defending champions’ score was 43/1. At the start of the seventh over, Kamalini hit back-to-back boundaries before being dismissed by Nandani Sharma after a solid catch by Lizelle Lee, getting out for 16 off 19.

But then, after the two openers were gone, in walked Captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who, along with Sciver-Brunt, took over this match. Over the next eight overs, the two made 66 runs together. While the Indian skipper kept the scoreboard ticking, the English all-rounder took charge of keeping the scoring pace up.

By the time Nat Sciver-Brunt was dismissed by spinner Shree Charani in the 15th over for 70 off 46, the team score was 117/3.

At this point, the Capital would have expected to chase down a score of about 170, but what they didn’t account for was a late-inning slog by Kaur and the incoming Nicola Carey. MI-W made 68 runs in the last five overs of their inning.

While Carey played a strong contributing role of 21 off 12, Harmanpreet Kaur remained unbeaten at the end of the inning at 74 off 42, taking Mumbai to a massive score of 195/4 at the end of their 20 overs.

In response, the Delhi Capitals started slowly. The opening duo of Shafali Verma and wicketkeeper Lizelle Lee scored runs at a mellow pace at the start of the inning. In the first three overs, the two made 15 runs together before Lee got out for a run-a-ball 10 by Sciver-Brunt.

This was the start of a powerplay collapse for the Capitals, as Verma departed an over later for eight off 13 at the hands of Nicola Carey, Laura Wolvaardt got out for nine off five later in the same over, and in the sixth, captain Jemimah Rodrigues was dismissed by Shabnim Ismail for one off three.

At the end of the powerplay, the Delhi-based team was struggling at 35/4. At this point, this team desperately needed a long partnership, one that never came.

Marizanne Kapp got out for 10 off six in the seventh over, becoming Carey’s third wicket of the day, before Niki Prasad departed for 12 off 18, being dismissed by Amelia Kerr.

The best performance with the bat for the Delhi Capitals today was by all-rounder Chinelle Henry, who scored 53 off 33. But no one around her could keep her company long enough to raise the Mumbai Indians’ heart rates.

Sneh Rana for 11 off 11, Shree Charani for 10 off six, and Nandani Sharma for a duck. The tail did not wag for long enough to make this match competitive, as the Capitals were dismissed for 145 in 19 overs. MI won the match by 50 runs.

Nicola Carey and Nat Scover-Brunt, despite conceding runs at an economy of over nine, mostly because of Chinelle Henry, took three wickets each. However, it was MI-W captain Harmanpreet Kaur who was named the player of the match for her unbeaten 74 off 42.

With this win, the Mumbai Indians Women have put up their first points on the league table. After this massive win, the Indians have climbed to the top of the points table with two points in as many games and a solid net run rate.
