Just when the Mumbai Indians (MI) threatened to pull off one of their famous comeback rolls with a 99-run victory over the Gujarat Titans (GT), they were shot back on the ground via a record 103-run defeat at the hands of rivals Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
This huge defeat, which was MI’s biggest IPL loss in terms of the margin of runs, undid all the good work and the momentum they had gained against Gujarat.
Now, the five-time champions stare down the barrel. To make matters worse, they have had to deal with injuries to two first-choice players: Rohit Sharma and Mitchell Santner.
Mumbai, now down and depleted, will need to find a way to rise up again to stay alive in the IPL 2026 playoffs race, having won only two out of seven matches.
Their next match is today, Wednesday, against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). SRH, on the other hand, have been rampant, with five wins in eight games and are on a four-game winning streak.
Against this in-form SRH unit, MI will need to conjure up a solid collective performance. Backing MI will be its home ground, as the match will be hosted at the Wankhede Stadium.
Mumbai’s former captain and senior opener Rohit has been out of action since April 12, when he picked up a hamstring injury while batting against RCB.
MI vs SRH: Will Rohit Sharma play today against SRH?
Rohit has missed Mumbai’s last three matches owing to a hamstring injury. He has been batting lightly in the nets. Head coach Mahela Jayawardene said Rohit is “progressing well,” but a decision on his participation in the game against SRH will be taken on match day.
This can be understood: Rohit is doubtful for today’s clash against SRH and is unlikely to play.
Meanwhile, Santner has been ruled out of the rest of the season due to the shoulder injury he sustained while attempting a catch against CSK. MI have replaced Santner with Keshav Maharaj in the squad.
MI vs SRH: Who Will Replace Mitchell Santner In MI Playing XI?
MI have replaced Santner with Keshav Maharaj in the squad. However, Will Jacks is likely to take Santner’s place in the MI playing XI.
Mumbai might also drop Danish Malewar, who replaced Rohit at the top but managed scores of 0 and 2 and has looked out of place.
Jacks could open, and Robin Minz could be slotted in the middle order.
MI vs SRH: MI playing XI + Impact Player – Predicted
Will Jacks, Quinton de Kock (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Naman Dhir, Robin Minz, Hardik Pandya (c), Tilak Varma, Sherfane Rutherford, AM Ghazanfar, Krish Bhagat, Jasprit Bumrah, Ashwani Kumar (Impact Player)
