MI vs LSG Match Highlights And Report-IPL: Mumbai Indians ended their forgettable IPL 2024 season with an 18-run loss against Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium.
MI finished at the bottom of the points table, a position they suffered in 2022 as well. LSG, despite their win that took them to 14 points, were also knocked out as their net run rate was lower compared to the fourth-placed Chennai Super Kings.
Although Nuwan Thushara and Piyush Chawla took three-wicket hauls each and Rohit Sharma and Naman Dhir blasted half-centuries, they couldn’t overpower the sensational effort of 75 (29) by Nicholas Pooran, which was backed by tidy bowling performances from Krunal Pandya and Ravi Bishnoi.

Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl first. Thushara struck in the first over with Devdutt Padikkal’s wicket, dismissing the left-hander lbw. KL Rahul and Marcus Stonis formed a steady second-wicket partnership of 48 (33) before the Australian was trapped lbw by Chawla on the last ball of the powerplay. The leg-spinner had Deepak Hooda slicing to point. LSG were 69/3 inside the 10 overs.
After that, though, LSG’s innings took off with Pooran’s blitzkrieg. Pooran went after Anshul Kamboj with two fours and three sixes across his two overs before tonking Hardik for a couple of maximums. While Rahul was on 41 (35), Pooran had raced to 43 (17).
Reaching his half-century in 19 balls, the West Indian bludgeoned three sixes and a four in the 15th over. He was eventually dismissed by Thushara, caught at long-on for 75 (29), and was followed by Rahul, who scored 55 (41). LSG were provided the finish by Krunal Pandya and Ayush Badoni, as the pair shared a partnership of 36* (17) to take LSG to 214.

In the chase, MI were off to a cracking start from Rohit Sharma. Rohit smashed Matt Henry for two consecutive sixes before lacing two consecutive fours each to Mohsin Khan and Naveen-ul-Haq. MI finished the powerplay at 53/0, and after that, Rohit hammered Mohsin for 14 runs and Bishnoi for two fours.
Rohit’s opening partner, Dewald Brevis, was slow to start. He hit a six and a four to Naveen, but the Afghan pacer had the better of the young South African, who scored 23 (20). The big jolt for MI was when Suryakumar Yadav swept Krunal straight to deep backward square leg for a duck.
Ishan Kishan (14 off 15) and Hardik Pandya (16 off 13) struggled to get off the blocks. Bishnoi struck with two important wickets of Rohit, who signed off the season, and possibly his Mumbai Indians career, with 68 (38), and Nehal Wadhera.
Naman Dhir stunned everyone and entertained the home crowd by walloping five sixes and four fours in his sizzling knock of 62* (28), but LSG’s total was 18 runs too much where MI finished.
Score summary: Lucknow Super Giants 214/6 in 20 overs (Nicholas Pooran 75, Nuwan Thushara 3/28); Mumbai Indians 196/6 in 20 overs (Rohit Sharma 68, Ravi Bishnoi 2/37). LSG defeated MI by 18 runs.
