Manu Bhaker and D Gukesh Nominated for Khel Ratna: Athletes Manu Bhaker, D Gukesh, Praveen Kumar, and Harmanpreet Singh have been nominated for the 2024 Khel Ratna award. The Khel Ratna Award is given to the sportspersons who perform extraordinarily in a calendar year.

Manu Bhakar bagged 2 bronze medals in the 2024 Olympics in 10m air pistol women and 10m air pistol mixed team events. Bhaker also finished fourth in 25m pistol women.
D Gukesh recently became the youngest World Chess Champion in the world winning the World Championship in Singapore between 25 November and 12 December 2024. The 18-year-old defeated the reigning champion Chinese grand chess master Ding Liren.
Praveen Kumar is a para-athlete who touched marvelous feats in recent history,. The 21-year-old won the gold medal in the high jump at the 2024 Paralympics with a record-breaking jump of 2.08 meters. He had also bagged a silver at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics and gold in the Asian Para Games 2022.
Another nominee Harmanpreet Singh captained India’s men’s hockey team to the bronze medal in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. India reached the semifinals but had to bend their knee in front of Germany at a score of 3-2. But in the Bronze Medal match India thumped Spain 2-1 with both the goals coming from the stick of Harmanpreet.
The Ministry of Sports also nominated 32 athletes for the Arjuna Awards which also includes, 17 para-athletes.
