KKR won their first two titles under Gambhir’s captaincy before Shreyas Iyer led them to their third championship in 2024.

History of Kolkata Knight Riders
Kolkata Knight Riders joined the IPL in its inaugural season in 2008. The franchise quickly attracted attention because of its association with Shah Rukh Khan and its purple-and-gold team colours. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly was among the team’s leading players during its early years.
KKR struggled to maintain consistent results in their first few seasons. However, the team improved under Gautam Gambhir, who became captain in 2011. The franchise won its first IPL title in 2012 after defeating Chennai Super Kings in the final.
KKR won another championship in 2014, beating Kings XI Punjab in a closely contested final. The team remained competitive over the following years but did not win another title until 2024.
The 2024 season became another major milestone for the franchise. Led by Shreyas Iyer and coached by Chandrakant Pandit, KKR finished the league stage at the top of the points table and defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final to secure their third IPL title.
The team could not continue that success in 2025 and finished eighth. KKR then appointed Abhishek Nayar as head coach ahead of the 2026 season, with Ajinkya Rahane continuing as captain. The franchise finished seventh in 2026 and missed the playoffs.
