Irfan Pathan Believes SRH is Top Heavy: Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan reckons that Sunrisers Hyderabad are going to find things difficult whenever their top order fails to fire.
SRH has undoubtedly been the most exciting team in IPL 2024. They have crossed the score of 263, which was the largest in IPL history before this season, three times this year. They also made what is now the largest IPL score against Royal Challengers Bengaluru earlier this season.
The formula behind these massive scores for SRH has been their formidable top order. The opening pair of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma wreak havoc on the bowlers in every match. Both of them are in the top 15 run scorers this season and have a strike rate of over 210.

After them, Heinrich Klassen comes on the field and keeps the momentum going. These three, supported by the likes of Abdul Samad, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shahbaz Ahmed, and Aiden Markram, make this arguably the most attacking batting order in IPL history.
As per Irfan Pathan Believes SRH is Top Heavy, But SRH’s most recent contest against RCB, Match 41 of IPL 2024, exposed an issue with their batting attack.
While chasing a target of 207 runs, the Sunrisers’ top order collapsed. Besides a quickfire 10 by Abhishek Sharma, none of the other usual suspects fired. This resulted in the side losing the plot and its speed of scoring runs, losing the match by 35 runs.

Following the match, Irfan Pathan, while speaking with Star Sports, claimed that SRH is susceptible to weak batting performances if their top four fail to fire.
“SRH will find things difficult moving forward as other franchises will now plan to stop the top four as there is no firepower after them. Royal Challengers Bengaluru have the same issues. They are also top-order heavy,”
said Pathan.
Ever since playing all the main players in their current batting order, SRH has lost two matches. On both of those occasions, the top order failed to give them a fine start, which resulted in the Hyderabad franchise not putting up enough runs.
Despite the loss against RCB, SRH is still third on the table with 10 points in eight matches. They will face the Chennai Super Kings in their next match on April 28 at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.
