IPL 2024 playoffs scenario for DC and LSG: Delhi Capitals signed off from the league phase of the IPL 2024 with a 19-run win over Lucknow Super Giants at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday night in Delhi.
DC is the first team to complete their 14 league matches. They end the league stage with 14 points and a net run rate of -0.377 and sit in the fifth position in the points table. LSG, who have 12 points, have one game in hand and have a net run rate of -0.787.
Although both DC and LSG are alive in playoff contention at this point, they have almost no chance of finishing in the top four considering their net run rate and form of Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, who are sitting in the third and fourth spots, respectively.
The top two spots currently are acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders, who have sealed a spot in the top two, and Rajasthan Royals, who qualified for the playoffs after DC’s win over LSG.

DC have 14 points in 14 games. DC are only mathematically alive in the playoff race because they have a poor NRR of -0.377. The only way for DC to get into the top four would be if CSK beat RCB, SRH lose both of their games by massive margins, and LSG lose their last game or even if they win it, they remain below DC on NRR.
To reflect how much of an almost impossible chance this is for DC, they will need SRH to lose their remaining two matches by a combined margin of 194 runs after conceding 200 runs in each game.
Talking about LSG, KL Rahul’s team also stands all but eliminated from the playoff race because they have 12 points in 13 games and a poor NRR of -0.787. Similar to DC, for LSG to qualify, they need to beat MI by a big margin, CSK need to beat RCB, and SRH need to lose their two games by margins, which would push their NRR below LSG’s.
