India Tour of Bangladesh Is Off:- India Tour of Bangladesh: India’s scheduled white-ball tour of Bangladesh has been officially pushed back by over a year, with both boards confirming the postponement on Saturday. The series, initially planned for August 2025, will now take place in September 2026.
India Tour of Bangladesh Is Off
The brief joint statement from the BCCI and BCB described the decision as mutual, arrived at after “considering the international commitments and scheduling priorities of both sides.” The tour was set to include three ODIs and three T20Is across a two-week window.
In Dhaka, the Bangladesh board expressed hope of hosting the Indian team next year, adding that updated fixtures would be announced in due course. However, behind the formality lies a broader story—one that has less to do with cricket’s calendar and more with regional geopolitics.
While not referenced in the statement, the delay comes at a time of visible strain in Indo-Bangladeshi relations. India’s government has taken an increasingly firm stance toward Dhaka in recent months, following a deterioration in diplomatic ties and heightened security concerns. It is understood that the BCCI’s final decision followed internal consultation with national authorities.
The first public sign of uncertainty came when the BCB halted its domestic media rights negotiations, often timed around marquee home series like one involving India. The delay in the tour is a big financial setback for the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
At the same time, there’s still no clarity on another major tournament involving India. The Asia Cup is set to be held in the UAE this September, but the BCCI hasn’t confirmed if India will take part. One reason could be the chance of playing against Pakistan, which is a sensitive matter after the recent military clash in May.
The Indian government seems to be more careful right now when it comes to playing bilateral cricket series. Taking part in bigger tournaments like those organised by the ICC or ACC looks more likely, especially as India has its eyes on hosting the 2036 Olympics.
With no clear word yet on the Asia Cup and now the Bangladesh tour being pushed back, it’s clear that cricket is being affected by the political situation. Matches can be planned on paper, but dealing with international relations is a lot more complicated.
