The Indian Cricket Team ended the day on a high, with a lead of 495 runs at stumps on the second day of the second Sri Lanka vs India Test match. The star of the day was Dhruv Jurel, who scored his first international century and helped take the team score past the 500-run mark.
Day 1 of this match ended with India cruising at 300/5. Devdutt Padikkal scored his second century in as many matches on the first day, while captain Shubman Gill scored a half-century.

Day 2 started with Dhruv Jurel and debutant Saransh Singh on strike. However, less than two overs in, Saransh edged the ball bowled towards his hip and was caught brilliantly by Kamil Mishara at second slip. Singh had lost his wicket at the score of six runs.
With India six wickets down, in walked Rishabh Pant. Pant had previously come in to bat at No. 5 on Day 1. However, after playing 15 balls, Pant was retired hurt after suffering a wrist injury.
The two wicketkeepers now had the duty of somehow taking the score somewhere near or over the 400-run mark. However, more than taking the team to a solid total, the two were going to seize the first session of the day.
Pant started aggressively. Within two overs of coming onto the pitch, he had pulled a ball by Lahir Kumara out of the park. His six dented one of the solar panels on the roof of the Sinhalese Sports Club cricket ground in Colombo.
The excitement didn’t stop, as just a few overs later, Pant barely survived as the ball nearly rolled onto the stumps after hitting his shoulder.
By the 100th over mark, the two had finally found their groove after crossing the score of 30. While Jurel played more cautiously, Pant was taking a more risky approach, scoring boundaries and barely surviving in between. So, classic test match, Rishabh Pant!
While the pacers had looked good with a fresh ball, the spinners, despite getting some spin, were being punished quite a lot, especially by Pant.
By the 110th over, both the batters had reached their half-centuries. The first session of the day ended with the score being 419/6.
On the first ball of the second session, Rishabh Pant, playing on 63, stepped out to hit the ball down the ground. Instead, he mistimed his hit and was caught at long-off. With his 63 runs in this inning, he became the highest run scorer for India in the World Test Championship.
At 419/7, in walked the hero of the first Test, Manav Suthar. He held his ground while Jurel scored the bulk of runs at the other end. Suthar scored 18 off 51 before being dismissed by Prabath Jayasuriya, edging the ball to the wicketkeeper.
With eight wickets down at the score of 458, Mohammed Siraj came out to bat. He stood firm at one end while Jurel marched towards a ton. In his first 17 balls, Siraj didn’t even score a run.

In the 132nd over of the innings, while Dhruv Jurel was batting at 95, the game was stopped due to rain. But after an hour or so, the rain stopped and play resumed into the third session.
Dhruv Jurel, in the 136th over of the first innings of the second Sri Lanka vs India Test, while batting at 99, ran for a risky single and barely survived. That brought up his first half-century not only in Test cricket but also in international cricket as a whole. He did so in 171 deliveries.
Jurel punched up a gear after reaching his hundred, hitting a six on the first ball he played after reaching the milestone. In fact, he hit two sixes in the final six balls he played before Indian captain Shubman Gill declared the innings at 503/9.
With a mammoth total standing in front of the Lankan Lions, openers Lahiru Udara and Kamil Mishara came out to open the innings.
However, on the first ball of the second over of the innings, bowled by Prasidh Krishna, the ball bounced and moved just enough to catch the edge of Udara’s bat while Yashasvi Jaiswal took a stunning catch at the slip. The Sri Lankan score, after the opposition had scored over 500 runs, was 1/1.
With barely any overs left in the day, Sri Lanka sent out spinner Prabath Jayasuriya as the night-watchman.
India took a gamble by giving the last over of the day, with a new ball, mind you, to spinner Manav Suthar. But this gamble paid dividends as, on the last ball of the day, Suthar trapped Jayasuriya in front of the stumps as the night-watchman was out after scoring two runs.
Day 2 of Test 2 between India and Sri Lanka ended with the Lankan score being 8/2 and them trailing by a whopping 495 runs with eight wickets in hand.
