IND vs PAK Analysis: Suryakumar Yadav’s Team India became the first team in the Asia Cup 2025 to qualify for the Super 4 round after their thumping seven-wicket victory over arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday in Dubai, which had followed their nine-wicket mauling of the UAE three nights ago.
It was a collective effort from the Indian team that helped them seal another win over Pakistan in an IND vs PAK encounter; this was India’s sixth consecutive win against Pakistan across formats.
The bowlers halted Pakistan’s innings at an under-par score of 127, which the batting side could only manage to reach courtesy of Shaheen Afridi’s 33* off 16 balls. As expected, the target of 128 proved to be too timid as India jogged to it in 15.5 overs.

Unwise decision to bowl first
It was a shocking decision by the Pakistan captain, Salman Agha, to bowl first after winning the toss in IND vs PAK. That is because Dubai is a highly chase-friendly venue in night T20 matches.
Since 2021, in the night T20I matches in Dubai, 20 T20Is have been won by the chasing side and only nine by the team batting first. Remember the 2021 T20 World Cup when, out of 13 games in Dubai, 12 matches were won by the team batting second and only one by the batting-first side?
India captain Suryakumar Yadav added that he wanted to bowl first as well. So this decision by Agha was certainly poor.
Dominance of Indian spinners
While both teams in IND vs PAK understood well that the surface would suit the spinners, only one team could really cash in on the conditions, and that was India, who deployed four spinners—Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy, Axar Patel, and Abhishek Sharma.
India’s spinners bowled 13 overs, conceding 65 runs while taking five wickets—all five of those wickets were of top 7 Pakistani batsmen. The only Indian bowlers who conceded at more than 6 runs per over were the two pacers, Bumrah and Hardik.
Over-aggression led to the throwing away of wickets
Though it is the first time most of these Pakistani batsmen came across Kuldeep, Varun, and Axar, their shot selections and the execution of them remain questionable.
Under head coach Mike Hesson, Pakistan have decided to bat in an aggressive manner: amid trying to catch up with the rest of the world, Hesson dropped Babar and Rizwan from the squad and even excluded Haris Rauf and Hasan Ali from the playing XI in the bid to add batting depth.
However, given the inexperience of the Pakistani batsmen, it seems a fragile strategy that was bound to come unstuck—and it did in a crucial, high-stakes IND vs PAK encounter.
Despite losing two early wickets to Hardik and Bumrah, the Pakistani batsmen swung for fences against the top-quality Indian spin trio and lost their wickets: all of the top five Pakistani batters were caught out, mistiming or mis-hitting their shots that were aimed for the boundary line.
