Head took the non-striker’s end promptly, and Boland faced all six balls from Atkinson, edging the last ball of the over for a boundary to the thirdman region as the Australian fans at the MCG cheered as loud as they could.
Australia ended day 1 at 4/0 in their second innings, leading by 46 runs.

Veteran Indian commentator and one of the most respected figures in the cricket fraternity, Harsha Bhogle reacted to the frenzied nature of play on day 1 of the AUS vs ENG MCG Test.
While Bhogle tacitly underlined the spicy character of the Melbourne pitch, he also opined that the falling of 20 wickets on day 1 of the Test match is not a good reflection of Test cricket.
Harsha Bhogle tweeted, “Whichever metric you choose to measure the game in, both teams getting bowled out on day 1 of a test match cannot be good for our game.”
Later, Bhogle also admitted that the last over of Friday’s play at the MCG was “captivating,” with Boland receiving huge applause.
He tweeted, “And yet, a no 11 trying to survive an over against the new ball on a treacherous pitch in front of 70k supporters is captivating drama.”
