Day 4 of the third Australia vs England Ashes Test at Adelaide was full of action and drama. Australia finished their second innings at 349. Travis Head was the star again, scoring a brilliant 170. He got good support from Alex Carey, who made 72, and Usman Khawaja, who scored 40. England bowlers fought back late, but Australia still set a huge target of 435 runs.

England’s chase started badly. Ben Duckett was out almost immediately to Pat Cummins. Ollie Pope also fell early, caught after scoring 17. Joe Root and Zak Crawley then steadied things for a while and added a good partnership before Cummins dismissed Root for 39.

After tea, Nathan Lyon completely changed the game. He bowled beautifully and took key wickets. He bowled Harry Brook for 30, then dismissed Ben Stokes for just five. Later, he stumped Zak Crawley for 85, which was a big blow for England. Lyon finished the day with three important wickets. Cummins also took three wickets across the innings.

At stumps, England were 6 for 207. They still need 435 runs to win, which means they need another 228 runs on the final day. Australia needs only four more wickets to win the Test and also seal the Ashes series.

Zak Crawley’s Fighting Fifty and Time-Wasting Moment Steal Spotlight in the Ashes Australia vs England Test

Zak Crawley played an important knock in the third Australia vs England Test at the Adelaide Oval by scoring a fighting half-century against Australia. His fifty came on Day 4 while England was chasing a very big target of 435 runs after Australia was bowled out for 349 in their second innings.

England came out to bat with only a few minutes left before lunch. Pat Cummins struck early by getting Ben Duckett out, caught at second slip. Ollie Pope took a single, leaving Zak Crawley to face the final balls before the break.

Crawley tried to waste time by walking down the pitch and delaying play so the session would end. Cummins noticed this and responded by slowing things down himself, adjusting his shoes and making Crawley wait. The moment drew attention from players and fans.

This half-century was special because it helped Crawley go past India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal in a major World Test Championship record. Crawley now has 21 scores of 50 or more as an opener in the WTC. This puts him level with Sri Lanka’s Dimuth Karunaratne at the top. Jaiswal and New Zealand’s Tom Latham both have 20 such scores, while Australia’s Usman Khawaja has 19.

Pat Cummins Becomes Australia’s 6th Highest Test Wicket-Taker during the Ashes Australia vs England Test

Pat Cummins has become Australia’s 6th-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket. He achieved this feat during the third Test of the 2025–26 Ashes Australia vs England series at the Adelaide Oval.

Cummins went past Mitchell Johnson’s record of 313 Test wickets. He now has 315 wickets in 72 Test matches, while Johnson finished his career with 313 wickets from 73 Tests.

In this match, Cummins led Australia’s bowling strongly. In England’s second innings chase of 435 runs, he dismissed Ben Duckett early, getting him caught in the slips. He then removed Ollie Pope, who scored 17, and later got Joe Root out for 39, caught behind by Alex Carey.

Cummins had already taken three wickets in England’s first innings. His wicket of Pope took him past Johnson on the all-time Australian list.

Only five Australian bowlers now have more Test wickets than Cummins. They are Shane Warne, Nathan Lyon, Glenn McGrath, Mitchell Starc, and Dennis Lillee.

The Adelaide Test is crucial for England. If they lose or if the match is drawn, Australia will retain the Ashes and take a 3–0 lead in the series.
