They absolutely smashed the Chennai Super Kings in their last league game. With nine wins, five losses, 18 points, and a positive net run rate in 14 games, Gujarat finished second on the points table.
Finishing in the top two meant they made it into Qualifier 1, where GT faced the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and were utterly dominated.
Meanwhile, the Rajasthan Royals were the inaugural IPL champions, winning the league all the way back in 2008. However, they have failed to win it while not being one of the more successful teams in the league. They last reached the final in 2022, for the first time since their title win. Now under a young captain after letting go of Sanju Samson, this young squad is looking to relive their past glory and win it all again.
The Royals have gotten off to a flying start to this season. In their opening game, they thrashed the Chennai Super Kings, before beating the Gujarat Titans in their second in a thriller. In their third game agaisnt the Mumbai Indians, which was shortened due to rain, RR dominated MI. They then made it four-in-four with a fine win over the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. They then lost their first game of the season, being defeated by the Gujarat Titans. This was followed by their second defeat in a row, to the Kolkata Knight Riders. They then beat the Lucknow Super Giants in a low-scoring game.
Then came a second defeat to the Gujarat Titans this season, before Rajasthan became the first team this season to beat the Punjab Kings, before immediately losing to the Delhi Capitals, and being defeated by the Gujarat Titans. Another loss came against the Delhi Capitals. Then came a victory over the Lucknow Super Giants. They confirmed their place in the playoffs with a victory over the Mumbai Indians. With eight wins, six losses, 16 points, and a positive net run rate in 14 games, RR had finished fourth on the points table.
As the last team to qualify for the playoffs, RR faced the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator, a game that they won on the back of a historic innings by Vaibhav SOoryavanshi.
