GT vs CSK Match Highlights And Report-IPL: Both Gujarat Titans openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan compiled brilliant centuries against Chennai Super Kings to down the visitors by 35 runs in Ahmedabad.
They posted an opening stand of 210 runs in 17.2 overs. This is the third-highest partnership in IPL history and the joint-highest opening stand. This was only the third time in the IPL that two batters have scored centuries in the same innings.
For CSK, Daryl Mitchell and Moeen Ali cracked half-centuries, but other batters didn’t contribute much. With this win, GT have kept themselves just alive in the playoff race while things have just gotten tricky for CSK.

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and elected to bowl first. The decision proved disastrous, as Gill and Sudharsan scored 58 runs in the powerplay.
While Sudharsan took his time, as he generally does, to get going as he was 28 (23), Gill showed attacking instincts from the first over and was 29 (13) at the end of the powerplay. Gill’s aggression in the powerplay may have also stemmed from being excluded from India’s T20 World Cup squad.
After the powerplay, the duo laced into Jadeja for a 15-run over and thumped Simarjeet Singh for 23 runs. Sudharsan brought up his fifty in 32 balls, Gill in only 25 balls, both doing it with a maximum.
Soon, Sudharsan flicked a switch and got aggressive so much that he raced from 59 (36) to 103 (50), bringing up his maiden IPL century with a six off Simarjeet in the 17th over. Gill batted at a constant rate throughout his innings, and he, too, raised his ton along with Sudharsan. The GT captain reached three figures in 50 balls.
Both got out in the 18th over to Tushar Deshpande. David Miller’s cameo of 16 runs took GT to 231.

While it’s true that no total has been safe in this IPL season, GT sealed the game effectively in the first three overs. Rachin Ravindra got run out via a direct-hit from Miller; Rahane top-edged Sandeep Warrier to mid-off; and Gaikwad pulled Umesh to deep square leg, where Rashid Khan took a superb juggling catch. CSK were 10/3 at the end of the 3rd over.
With a big target in sight, Mitchell and Moeen didn’t hold themselves back and swung for the fences. They connected well, and even put the likes of Kartik Tyagi and Noor Ahmad under pressure, with Ali smoking Noor for a hat-trick of sixes.
CSK crossed 100 in the 11th over, but it was only a matter of time before the hosts struck back. They did so through Mohit Sharma, who dismissed both the set batters, Mitchell for 63 (34), and Ali for 56 (36). Mohit all but sealed the match with the wicket of Shivam Dube in the 17th over. Rashid added to his wicket tally by nipping out Jadeja and Santner.
The fans, though, did get to see some lusty blows from MS Dhoni, who came to bat at number 8. Dhoni whacked a six to Mohit before walloping two maximums and a four to Rashid in the last over of the chase. The 42-year-old remained not out on 26 (11).
Score summary: Gujarat Titans 231/3 in 20 overs (Shubman Gill 104, Tushar Deshpande 2/33); Chennai Super Kings 196/8 in 20 overs (Daryl Mitchell 63, Mohit Sharma 3/31). GT defeated CSK by 35 runs.
