The Global Super League (GSL), officially known as the ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League, is an international T20 cricket tournament that brings together franchise teams and representative sides from different domestic competitions. Organised with the support of Cricket West Indies, the tournament is hosted in Guyana and gives teams from leagues around the world an opportunity to compete against one another for an international title.
The competition began in 2024 with five participating teams and has since featured clubs connected to major T20 competitions, including the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Pakistan Super League (PSL), Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Big Bash League (BBL), International League T20 (ILT20) and Major League Cricket (MLC). Unlike most domestic franchise leagues, the GSL brings together teams from different cricketing systems for a short tournament rather than running as a regular national league.
Rangpur Riders won the inaugural edition in 2024, while Guyana Amazon Warriors claimed the next two titles in 2025 and 2026. The fourth edition is scheduled to take place from June 24 to July 3, 2027, at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence, with five teams set to compete for a US$1 million prize pool.
What Is the Global Super League?
The Global Super League is an invitational men’s T20 cricket tournament designed to bring together successful teams from different countries and domestic competitions. Instead of featuring franchises from one national league, the event invites teams associated with cricket leagues and organisations around the world to compete in Guyana.
The tournament gives participating teams an opportunity to test themselves against unfamiliar opponents and different styles of T20 cricket. It also provides international exposure for players who might otherwise compete mainly within their own domestic competitions.
The competition is hosted at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence, the home venue of the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League. The tournament has featured five teams in each edition, with the participating sides changing from year to year.
History of the Global Super League
The GSLT20 began in November 2024, when five teams from different cricketing backgrounds travelled to Guyana for the inaugural tournament. The participants were Guyana Amazon Warriors, Lahore Qalandars, Rangpur Riders, Victoria and Hampshire.
Rangpur Riders won the first championship after defeating Victoria by 56 runs in the final on December 6, 2024. They scored 178/3 in their 20 overs, with Soumya Sarkar making an unbeaten 86 from 54 balls and Steven Taylor contributing 68. Victoria were bowled out for 122 in 18.1 overs, giving Rangpur the first GSL trophy.
The second edition took place in July 2025 and featured Guyana Amazon Warriors, Rangpur Riders, Central Stags, Dubai Capitals and Hobart Hurricanes. Guyana Amazon Warriors won their first GSL title by defeating Rangpur Riders by 32 runs in the final. The Warriors scored 196/4, while Rangpur were dismissed for 164, with Rahmanullah Gurbaz playing an important role in the winning team’s batting performance.
The third edition was held from July 23 to August 1, 2026, with Lahore Qalandars, Perth Scorchers XI, Guyana Amazon Warriors, San Francisco Unicorns and Desert Vipers competing. Guyana Amazon Warriors successfully defended their title, beating San Francisco Unicorns by six runs in a low-scoring final to become the first team to win consecutive GSL championships.
The fourth edition is scheduled for June and July 2027. The organisers have confirmed the dates and venue, while details about the five participating teams and the full fixture list are still to be announced.
Global Super League Winners List
The tournament has crowned two different champions across its first three editions, with Guyana Amazon Warriors winning twice in succession.
| Year | Champions | Runners-up | Final result |
| 2024 | Rangpur Riders | Victoria | Won by 56 runs |
| 2025 | Guyana Amazon Warriors | Rangpur Riders | Won by 32 runs |
| 2026 | Guyana Amazon Warriors | San Francisco Unicorns | Won by 6 runs |
| 2027 | To be decided | To be decided | Scheduled for July 3 |
Rangpur Riders made history by winning the inaugural competition in 2024, but Guyana Amazon Warriors have become the most successful team in the tournament’s short history. Their victories in 2025 and 2026 established them as the first two-time champions.
The Warriors’ second consecutive title came after a tense final in 2026. They were bowled out for just 85, but their bowlers defended the small total and restricted San Francisco Unicorns to 79, winning by six runs.
Global Super League Teams
The GSLT20 does not have a permanent set of five franchises in the same way as the IPL or PSL. Instead, its participants change between editions, allowing the organisers to invite teams from different competitions and cricketing regions.
1. Guyana Amazon Warriors
Guyana Amazon Warriors represent Guyana in the Caribbean Premier League and are the most successful team in GSL history. They won the tournament in 2025 and retained the title in 2026, making them the first franchise to claim two championships.
Their familiarity with conditions in Guyana has been an advantage, as the GSL is played at the same ground used by the Warriors during their CPL campaigns. Their 2026 title was especially notable because they defended a total of only 85 in the final against San Francisco Unicorns.
2. Rangpur Riders
Rangpur Riders are a franchise from Bangladesh’s domestic T20 cricket system and became the first GSL champions in 2024. They defeated Victoria by 56 runs in the final, with Soumya Sarkar scoring 86 not out and Steven Taylor making 68.
The Riders also reached the final in 2025 but lost to the Guyana Amazon Warriors by 32 runs. Their appearances in the first two finals made them one of the most prominent teams in the competition’s early history.
3. Lahore Qalandars
Lahore Qalandars are one of the leading franchises in Pakistan’s PSL and have also competed in the GSLT20. The team participated in the inaugural edition in 2024 and returned for the 2026 tournament.
Their participation brings players from Pakistan’s franchise system into a competition featuring teams from the Caribbean, Australia, the United Arab Emirates and the United States. Lahore Qalandars are known for their investment in player development and have won multiple PSL championships.
4. San Francisco Unicorns
San Francisco Unicorns represent Major League Cricket in the United States. They made their GSL debut in 2026 and produced an impressive run to the final, where they faced defending champions Guyana Amazon Warriors.
The Unicorns came close to winning the title but were dismissed for 79 while chasing 86. Their six-run defeat gave the Warriors their second championship, although San Francisco’s run to the final marked a successful first appearance in the competition.
5. Perth Scorchers XI
Perth Scorchers XI represented Australia’s Big Bash League system in the 2026 tournament. The side entered the competition after Perth Scorchers won the 2025–26 BBL season, bringing Australian T20 talent into the international event.
The team competed against Lahore Qalandars, Guyana Amazon Warriors, San Francisco Unicorns and Desert Vipers. Their participation helped broaden the tournament’s international representation beyond the Caribbean and South Asia.
6. Desert Vipers
Desert Vipers are an ILT20 franchise based in the United Arab Emirates. They participated in the 2026 GSL after winning the 2026 ILT20 title, bringing another established franchise from a major T20 competition into the tournament.
Their squad featured international players and T20 specialists, providing a different combination of batting and bowling options against the other teams. Their participation also strengthened the GSL’s links with the growing franchise cricket scene in the UAE.
7. Central Stags
Central Stags are a New Zealand domestic team that competed in the 2025 GSLT20. They represented New Zealand’s Super Smash competition, joining teams from the Caribbean, Bangladesh, Australia and the UAE.
Their inclusion showed that the GSL was not limited to established city-based franchises, as it also welcomed teams representing domestic cricket associations.
8. Dubai Capitals
Dubai Capitals are an ILT20 franchise that took part in the 2025 edition. They competed alongside Central Stags, Guyana Amazon Warriors, Hobart Hurricanes and Rangpur Riders.
The Capitals’ participation brought UAE-based franchise cricket into the tournament and helped connect the GSL with another growing T20 competition.
9. Hobart Hurricanes
Hobart Hurricanes represent Tasmania in Australia’s Big Bash League and competed in the 2025 GSLT20. They were among the teams invited to Guyana for the second edition, which brought together five participants from different domestic competitions.
The Hurricanes’ participation added another Australian team to the tournament’s history, following Victoria’s appearance in the inaugural edition.
10. Victoria
Victoria represented Australian domestic cricket in the inaugural 2024 edition. The team reached the final after competing against Guyana Amazon Warriors, Lahore Qalandars, Rangpur Riders and Hampshire.
Victoria lost the final to Rangpur Riders by 56 runs, finishing on 122 after chasing a target of 179. Despite the defeat, the team’s appearance helped establish the GSL’s concept of bringing different cricketing systems into one competition.
11. Hampshire
Hampshire, an English county cricket team, competed in the first edition of the GSLT20 in 2024. Their inclusion meant the inaugural tournament featured a team from England’s domestic cricket structure alongside franchise sides from other countries.
The GSL’s invitation-based approach allows organisers to include teams from different types of competitions, creating match-ups that would not normally happen during regular domestic seasons.
Global Super League Format
The GSLT20 is played in the T20 format, with each team allowed a maximum of 20 overs to bat in a standard innings. The competition features five teams, although the exact playoff structure has varied between editions.
In 2024 and 2025, the tournament used a round-robin stage followed by a final between the top two teams. The 2026 edition included 12 matches, with 10 league matches followed by a Qualifier and the final. The team finishing first in the league stage advanced directly to the final, while the second- and third-placed teams competed in the Qualifier for the remaining place.
The tournament format can be summarised as follows:
- League stage: Each of the five teams plays the other four teams once, producing 10 matches.
- Qualifier: The second- and third-placed teams compete for a place in the final.
- Final: The first-placed team from the league stage faces the Qualifier winner for the championship.
The format and schedule for the 2027 edition will be confirmed by the organisers ahead of the tournament.
Global Super League 2027 Season
The fourth edition of the GSLT20 is scheduled to run from June 24 to July 3, 2027. The organisers confirmed the dates on October 13, 2026, and announced that five international T20 teams will compete for a US$1 million prize pool.
Guyana Amazon Warriors will enter the tournament as defending champions after winning back-to-back titles in 2025 and 2026. The organisers have not yet confirmed the complete list of participating teams or the full schedule, so the final line-up for 2027 remains to be announced.
All matches are expected to take place at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence, which has hosted every edition of the competition so far.
Global Super League Venue
Main venue: Guyana National Stadium, Providence, Guyana
The Guyana National Stadium in Providence is the home venue of the GSLT20. The ground is also used by Guyana Amazon Warriors during the Caribbean Premier League and has hosted all matches in the GSL’s first three editions.
Staging the entire competition at one venue allows teams to remain in the same location throughout the tournament. It also gives local supporters an opportunity to watch international franchise teams compete without the event moving between different cities. The stadium is scheduled to host the 2027 edition as well.
